Just 1 Thank you (1 prism)
A Mighty Duo (2 prisms)
Sum is greater than the parts (2 prisms Linked)
Triple Threat (Three prisms)
Prisms are garbage
I love fire prisms as much as the next eldar player, but I alas have never taken advantage of their prism linking abilities. With +1 S and +1 Ap per link, linking shots sounds pretty formidable in the right scenario. However, I always have been under the impression that two shots are better than 1. Anyone finding that they consistently link two prism shots all the time, just sometimes, or never?
Pursuing my prism curiosity, has anyone ever actually fielded 3 prisms in a non-apocalypse battle and linked them together for a strength 7 ap 2 Ordinance Shot? Or maybe taken three prisms and just not linked any?
Tell your stories my friends.
The Hand that guides.
Two prisms working together is great. two shots or if a MEQ target is in the open link to kill the whole squad. I have shot all 3 together once on a bunched group of termies but it was at the end of a game and was more for fun (I think all 2 shooting focus shots would have worked as well ).
It is really up to the situation. If facing hordes ( I fight ALOT against Tyranids ), I'll take three fire prisms seperate. If facing mechanized, I take two linked. If fighting 3+ save armies ( which TOO I do alot ), then two / three linked for that awesome ap3 / ap2 5" blast shot ( did some good killing ).
But it's up to the situation. Generally I take two, either linked or not ( depends on the target ).
I used 5 together in Apocalypse in this weirdy formation (Sunstorm?) to bring down Chaos Titan. It was nice.
I've only got one Fire Prism, so have never used more than one together. If I had another one I'd probably field them together, either linking or not depending on the situation. I have a tendency of loading up on Troops choices though so not sure if I'd take two or three even if the oppertunity arose. It's a lot of points for a slight increase in S/AP.
The options for linking a prism is formidable. Need to take down a monolith or land raider, a linked prism is your tool for the job, str 10 AP1 destroys the target vehicle on 50% of penetrating hits.
More useful still is the Str 6 AP3 large template of marine death. Better still it allows your second prism to be miles away from the action, tucked behind some building or other out of sight f the enemy (as long as it has LoS to the other prism of course).
Although using both separately is another great option if you're facing a guard/ork/nid horde
situatuion dictates whether thou shall be linked or not. As stated above, it depends on what you are shooting at.
I prefer lances to take down land raiders. Dual prisms would do better but its not like the point cost is comparable. But its not like the duties of 2 prisms and some BLs are comparable either.
5 prisms vs titan.....*droolingggg*
Both the eldar players amongst my regular opponents love using two linked, probably because our group were quite short of horde players until recently.
In our most recent apoc battle, the eldar player on the opposing team took SIX Fire Prisms. Luckily for us their team mates played like idiots else that could have caused us great pain... as it was they didn't deploy anything(!?!) so we had the freedom to waste the formation while waiting for their reserve to turn up.
