Is the warp spider a good unit to bring to the battle field?
Do you field them? how big of a unit?
I do like the hit and run type, jump in shoot something down then blink away behind some cover.. but they are costly! 149p for 6 men with exarch and 2 death spinners..
149p that could have been a fast 6 man squad of guardian jet bikes..
I love the model and even tho they are costly i still intend to field them in the start, to get the hang of them.. but what do YOU think about them? have they done you any good?
Let me ease your worriness my friend.
I ran two 5 man warp spider squads with exarch wielding dual spinners in a 3 way game versing orks and chaos. I had them set up behind some cover and they moved together, supporting wave serpents and then disengaging, or jumping forward (aroudn cover to rpevent heavies from targeting) and unloading into troops and light armour.
I never lost a single spider in the two games i played, but then again i never made it into assault as i would warp jump away in assault.
They are fun and tough and everyone hates it when you only need to wound on a 2+.
As one of the few units that can deep strike, shoot, and then move they can really be annoying.
However I'd proxied them a few times in the past and wasn't on the overall thrilled.
However they've gotten some buffs! Specifically that deep strike capability is now free, and there are exarcs that can deep strike with them.
I think I'd use larger units though.
i got some off ebay was was looking forward to using them against my two other friends that play, one plays IG and the other orks.
the ork player always has a big sqaud of lootaz that he has in the back of his army that destroys anything they can see, so i like to deepstrike on them and wipe them all out in one phase of shooting
they dont have AP but the volume of shots and the S of the weapons are really nice. plus their save isnt to shabby either
like sunny side said they arent gonna make your day using them but they arent gonna let you down either
All right.. horde hunters maybe then.. i will be seeing alot of orks and ig around here.. so they might do well if i learn to use them correctly as hit and run maniacs
thanks for the replies as well!
I've found them to be effective against any foe purely through the sheer volume of fire a decent sized squad and Exarch can put out.
It's absolute murder on lightly armoured troops but with that many shots and wounds you can even put a hurt on power armoured foes before dropping back out of their rapid fire/assault range.
Never deep struck them though, basically because you only have a 50% base chance of them showing up on turn 2 and with their mobility they can get pretty much wherever you want them to be by that point from deployment, plus their available turn one if your enemy rushes you.
"ask not the Eldar a question, for he will give you three answers, all of which are true and terrifying to know"
Just make sure they dont get isolated as as with all eldar they will quicly be riddled with bolter fire especially if you have been using them to annoy the enemy.
you cannot shoot my harliquins because beneath their mask is an idea and ideas are bulletproof
My original plan was to have 8 Striking Scorpions infiltrated with Warp Spiders either deep striking down or jumping ahead to support them..
I most likely will try to play an assault themed eldar list.. with just a few gunnery stations left behind (most like 3 war walkers and 2 Prisms)
Well i guess i got to live and learn the hard way
thanks for the replies!
I think you should stop these hateful ideas about JETBIKES.
Jetbikes are horrible. Don't go down that road. PLEASE.
Warp Spiders, however, can be very good if you use them well. The Deathspinners can take out Marines just as well as they can take out Guard with their S6 (although obviously saves will never be negated) and they always have a high volume of shots as they have 2 each. You can use them as a kind of fast strike unit so you can move in, shoot with the spinneret rifles and then teleport out again in the assault phase. I personally like them a lot and usually field at least one unit in my forces.
Jetbikes are terrible? I wouldn't go that far, but I will say that they are different than warpspiders. Spiders are a great harassing unit that can throw out enough shots to scare any unit in the game and with good rolling stay away from the return fire. Down side they are expensive, can loose numbers to the second jump and are easy to leave unsupported.
