Welcome to Librarium Online!
Our ork codex has been out for nearly a year and a half now and the army lists we are all seeing seems to be all containing the same unit choices. I therefore propose that GW should maybe bring out a white dwarf revision for the orks in the next 6-12 months, with the actual 5th or 6th edition codex coming out in 3.5 years time. Which would make the release time between the codexs 5 years which is the average time between ork codexs, as i have stated in another post (time to fix the ork codex).
I will therefore be posting proposed changes that i think should be made. These posts are not intented for the Dark Elder players to have a whinge about how they havent got a new codex for ever, but a constructive discussion pros and cons of the proposed change.
The first proposed change i have is to change the " A big mek allows one deff dread to be taken as a troops choice" to " A Big Mek allows one burna boyz mob to be taken as a troops choice"
Fluff wise i think this makes more sense as any big mek who is coming to work for a warboss is going to have a lot of Burn Boyz ( BB ) with him to help him build all those battlewagons. From a game point of view it does make the BB a lot more useful, as they could hold objectives. And from a buyers point of view, you would have a use for all those burns still sitting on their plastic spurs as you made all the boyz in the box into lootas and thought you had wasted your money on plastic parts you had no intention of using.
Anyway what do you think?
P.S. No whinges that don't even play orks, I never come and a whinge in your forum

(were are my Super-Runts)
I like that! The Deff Dred as a Troop is such a waste as it isn't scoring. The Deff Dred should have gone along the Fex line and been able to be taken as an Elite choice. But I really like the idea of being able to take Burnas as Troops.
Otherwise, I'm completely happy with our current Codex. I can't think of any changes I'd like to see made. Well, except perhaps allowing Big Gunz to be taken as part of a Grotz Mob ^-^ But that's nothing I think needs to be changed, just something I thought'd be fun.
I said Deff Dreds as a TROOP is a waste. You are filling a spot for a scoring unit with a non-scoring unit (i.e. its a waste).
Now see....I disagree.
*IF* I feel like using a deff dred (which isn't much anymore)...and *IF* I have a Big Mek (which is likely)...AND I have an open troop slot (which is pretty much always)....
THEN...I upgrade my dred to a troop choice. That allows me to set it up on the table when I'm only allowed to setup troops!
My issue with this is that nobs as scoring already lends a huge power gaminess to certain ork lists (you know who you are!!!). Burnas as scoring, while not as devastating, have the potential to do some pretty silly things. If you haven't been the victim of a Burnawagon yet, then perhaps you find them lacking. However, let me tell you that throw 10ish Burnas into a battlewagon and roar into enemy lines and you will have one of the greatest times of your 40k life.
Personally, I already feel that I am troops limited as it is, between footslogging shootas, trukk-bound sluggas, and objective camping grots. Besides, unless you are a loota spammer you are so unlikely to fill your elite choices (tankbustas? kommandos? I exclude nobs/meganobs as I assume you will take a warboss and throw those guys as troops as they tend to be more durable than burna boys anyways).
I will agree with you though that deff dreds are almost a useless option to turn into troops. The fact that they aren't scoring means the only reason I would ever do it is if I'm already taking 9 kans, which is likely what the game designers had in mind. Nothing like writing a rule to enable a single army list.
Good point, Cossack!
And, I did say that fielding Deff Dreads as Troops will open up Heavy Support selections. So, sacrificing 1-2 Troops Choices to field 5 Heavy Supports... Yeah.
Pirate Kaptin Gitbite ( 55 Points )
Unit Type: Infantry
Unit Composition: 1
Cygrot Body, Power Klaw, Snot Rokkit
Independent Character, BOOM! Landas
Cygrot Body: The Kaptin is part grot, part machine, granting him +1 Toughness (included in the profile above) and a 5+ invulnerable save.
Snot Rokkit: The Kaptin loves shoving 'e's mates inside of explosives and firing them at his enemies. The Snot Rokkit is a kustom modified rokkit launcha that fires highly explosive shells filled with snotlings!
Range: 18" Str: 4 AP: -- Type: Assault 1 Blast*
*Place a snotling swarm base under the blast template once shooting attacks have resolved. Treat the snotling swarm as deep striking, but do not roll to scatter. Should this cause the snotling swarm to be in base contact (or overtop of) an enemy model, move it the shortest distance required such that it would be 1" away from any enemy models. The snotling swarm suffers 1 wound for each 1" moved in this manner.
Unit Type: Infantry
Unit Composition: 1
Claws and Teeth
BOOM! Landas: Some grots are given the "privilege" to "volunteer" to be deployed via a much larger version of the Snot Rokkit -- A giant bomb fired from orbit via da Kaptin's looted frigate, Sumfink Brawny.
Any unit of Grots numbering 20 or less may select a BOOM! Landa transport for +35 points. Units entering play via BOOM! Landas must be held in reserves and will always deep strike, even in missions that normally do not allow models to deep strike.
When a BOOM! Landa becomes eligible to deploy from reserves, immediately resolve it as a shooting attack with the following profile:
Range: Unlimited Str: 6 AP: -- Type: Ordinance 1, Barrage, 5" Blast
Place the Grots Mob under the blast template once the shooting attack has been resolved. Treat the snotling swarm as deep striking, but do not roll to scatter. Should this cause the Grots to be in base contact with (or overtop of) an enemy model, move them the shortest distance required such that they would be 1" away from any enemy models. The Grots Mob suffers d3 wound for each 1" moved in this manner, armor saves may be taken normally.
