I start with 2 10 kroot kroot squads on each side(opposite to board edges) 6 man stealth suits in the middle FW's BS's and My HH in my deplomemt zone and Commander, crisis Battle suit and 2-4 drone drone sqauds ready to deep strike the other army will advance towards my stealthhsuits then the Commander, crisis Battle suit and 2-4 drone drone sqauds will deepstrike behid them and they will be surounded
"Space marines" ha Rats with power armor more like!
What is the point of surrounding if your not assaulting?!
and i hope thats not the next step in your tactic.....

You will be murdered horribly!
dont stretch your forces so much. Never a good idea.
Go on the attack, use your stealthsuits to cover your left flank of your kroot division on the left. Deep strike your Battle suit and 2-4 drone drones to the right of the same kroot division to give support fire. have your HQ come up the center with the other kroot and protect your right flank. Pinch the enemy between the 2 kroot groups. it would work better. But you really need to tell us what your going up against because there are flaws even in my tactic (Its worked before for me)
It is a good idea to deep strike your commander, but the best tactic i find is to march the krot accross the table, absorbing firepower. The Fire warriors can then fire at the enemy, while the enemy fire at the kroot (which they have to do unless they want to get into close combat). this will thin their numbers, and so what is left of the kroot can charge into close combat (3 attacks each) I find it helps to have kroot hounds here so they can advance after the combat has been won. Meanwhile, the hammerhead is firing constantly, and stealth teams have deployed. Use the stealth teams wisely. Fire off some markerlights, and then use the burst cannons to break through weak spots.
I don't like deep stiking stuff for the risk of losing them. It a huge blow to have suddenly lost your HQ, and possibly/probably an important part of you plan. Also the high movement of Crisis/Stealth suits means that they can usually get to the same place jsut as quick or quicker! (Reserves may not turn up.)
You cannot win, for to fight us is to give us power.
The advantage of deep striking means that you can get them in cover, without the risk of moving them accross the battlefield and being shot, but whatever works for you.
Telling people that Kroot will absorb fire power is like telling people that Imperial Guardsmen will hold in assault. While, granted, they will take some away from the Tau, at T3 with NO armour save, they are worse than Dark Eldar wyches. Unless you are going for huge squads, which which make a nice large hole in your points limit, they will go down in droves.
For example, let's take a standard tactical squad rapid firing. (going on statistical averages)
That's a lot of Kroot going down from ONE squad firing.
Bearing in mind that it will be a rare occasion that the enemy merely wants to engage in a firefight with Tau, rapid fire is an all too true possibility.
In my personal experience when playing against Tau, I find that wasting points on meat shields is a bit of a waste of points. Why not use the points spent on a unit that is meant to die to buy more fire warriors, who will do far more damage. That's just my personal opinion. Of course Kroot aren't useless, but I'm just not keen on them.
Death is my meat, terror my wine.
Best Tau strategy is to let them come to you and shoot em down to little peices, and some Kroot to assult or soak up some bullets.
Supporter in the Eternal War Against.......Nothing!
I say just dont put your hopes on the kroot doing amazing, I find that more firewarriors is the best way to go. I find steath suits and Broad sides are an amazing addition to any tau force. there more reliable as well
I personally wouldnt fire anything at approaching kroot. My nids would rip through them in assault, I would get 3 inches closer to you once theyre dead, and the turns in CC? I would use them as a shield from your fire and advance! Kroot should be either 1. stuck in woods to wait until the enemy assaults the main force or 2. infiltrated once its clear youll be in CC next turn.
