Welcome to Librarium Online!
So this is a list of the models i've ended up with in my army. It's not been planed so much as luck and gifts and the like. Mainly in that due to a company error when i was buying that starting force i ended up with 2 of the eldar starting boxes and a few other bits. I'm just not sure where to take it next. I'll be facing mostly orks necrons and SM. So i'd be grateful for any advance on how to round out my army so I can come up with some good lists.
18x dire avengers (2 exarch)
20x guardians (deffend with 2 platforms)
2x wave serpent
3x war walkers
1x fire prism
So as you can see there's enough there for a 1750 list even if i'd not really want to use as many guardians as i'd have to to get there. It's not flexible due to the lack of models and while i have lots of room to play with 1000 and 1500 point lists i feel like i'm missing things like aspects other than the dires and so on.
My own plans set in stone at this point is really to pick up a shadow seer for the harlequins and some more dire avengers so i can have two full 10 unit squads rather than having to do 9... the out come of the 2 starter packs really.
What i'm tempted by is some wraith guard 5 with a warlock in a transport seem useful but a bit overtly expensive point wise. I will pick them up at some point since they are simply cool, even if i don't use them.
But ya i just don't know where to go and i'm unsure about what holes i need filling. So please, advice away thanks!

Fire Dragons are amazing; get Fire Dragons!
Fire Dragons are a great buy as a dedicated "Whatever we hit dies" unit. Termies, Nob Bikers and armor of any flavor will fear you.
"Darnath Lysander is the Samuel L. Jackson of the 40k universe."
We like i said it's far from planned ended up with 2 of the battle force box sets instead of one with a farseer warlock and some extra dires first. Got 6 harlies from a friend who wasn't using them, filled out the warwalker and the rest of the harlies my self got the avatar and rangers as a gift and just picked up the fire prism since i needed a tad more solid fire power.
So yes, amazingly random hence why i'm asking for advice on how i should go about rounding it out and coming up with a more solid core list. I've really not spent all that much money on the army yet so i can't complain on how it is but i'd like to make it a little more... standard and planed heh
The advice so far seems to be along the lines i was thinking, i think i'll try and end up with a unit of most aspect at lest to add the flexibility i feel i'm lacking.
In terms of Aspect Warriors, Striking Scorpions and Fire Dragons would both be a great buy.
In terms of competitive viability, a Wraithlord would also do you well. Regardless, I would buy Fire Dragons first.
Dark Reapers, just slay any marines you can & fire dragons
Suffer not a Mon'Keigh to live
Suffer not the works of the C'Tan
warp spiders and dark reapers are always nice against SM
I say you should buy swoping hawks because they drop a large blast when they come in and they hame loads of shots and they can fly out if they have an exarach with them.
For as random as your army is, it sure looks a lot like mine... Make sure you get the shadowseer. I'd get a wave serpent full of fire dragons before I go the wraithguard route. I started with the wraithguard, but switched to dragons, 6 dragons are just as effective, it not more so... and way cheaper.
If you're fighting SM and Necrons then dark reapers and another fire prism could be really really handy... and they work against orks too. Lots of choices.
