New To Necrons And War Hammer 40k

Okay this has do primarily with the main game rules that i don't have yet but i do have the necron codex. I am curious about how the type of weapons work.

Weapon Type
Gauss Flayer, Rapid Fire

Gauss Blaster, Assault 2

Gauss cannon, heavy 3

Heavy Gauss Cannon, heavy 1

Gauss Flux Arc, Heavy D6

Particle Whip, Ord. 1/blast

Staff of light, Assault 3

So what does each type mean?

Armour vs invulnerable saves? whats the diffrence?

Ive played lotr for a time so know something bout gws.
and also im gonna get a Necron Phalanx box and the warhammer starter set. Should i get a couple of immortals too or do i not need them yet. please note i live on a small island and the nearest game workshop product is about 2,500 miles from me either way. so that is why i cannot get my hands on the rulebook and have a pdf to view necrons only. when i go to college i will start my necron army.

Thanks

Each diff weapon type has different rules involving how many times it can fire, and how/if it can fire with the units moving. Can't really get into the whole rules thing, don't want to get in trouble.

Armor save is the possibility of someones armor deflecting the shot, if the AP of the weapon is equal to or less than the armor save the unit you're shooting at has, it ignores their armor and they dont get that save. An invulnerable save, on the other hand, can always be taken, unless otherwise stated in a weapons special rules.

Immortals would be a nice addition to the phalanx, and 3 more destroyers.

That'll give you a bread and butter playable list, Lord w/orb, 30 warriors, 6 destroyers, 10 immortals, monolith.

What you should do is pick up the 5th edition rule book, or possibly get the assault on black reach abridged rulebook. That will explain all the SPECIAL functions of core gameplay. Then the codex which you have explains the specific functions within the core gameplay.

90% of your question can be answered on 1-2 pages of the rulebook explaining weapon types.

Hey, a very viable army for $320 isn't bad at all for 40k
You're lucky you're not playing Nids, I think my 2k point nid army was closer to $600 (plus some from the forgeworld peices I got)

Don't forget many Web sites offer discounts on GW products. Thewarstore.com is just one of them. You'll save some serious coin buying a big honking box set like this.

QFT! Warstore is always great 20% off, I've even seen SOME sites do up to 30% off! Also, for immortals, consider the warrior conversion

Maelstrom Games is also a good place to buy. Great prices, free worldwide shipping, and they're dependable. And if you want to save some cash, you can buy more warriors and convert them into Immortals without too much effort. Of course, that depends on how confident you are of your own abilities.

well total with discount is 321.6$(at thewarstore.com) before tax but im actually prepared to pay that. Final question should i get the black beach set (for the rule book and an opponet) or the real rule book?

Converting immortals maybe another day.

Thanks Again to all.
