Welcome to Librarium Online!
I want to get some more Eldar (birthday soon...) to add to my roughly 1500pt army that consists of:
Avatar (have to buy the FW model, just borrowing a friends GW one, because he has a FW one)
20 Dire Avengers
I think i need to get a full seer Council, at least 5 Wraithguard, and i want another Wraithlord and some swooping Hawks for fun, but what can i add to make my army better?
Two Serpents for Avengers, War Walkers with Scatter Lasers (2-3) and some Jetbikes will do for a very solid list.
I'll second the notion for two more Wave Serpents, beyond that, it's really up to what you would like to field (I wouldn't recommend Swooping Hawks though, they don't preform very well.)
Scratchbuilding Fire Prism Crystals
2K Mech Eldar in 2010: 25Win/4Lose/8Draw
Depends what you're playing against. Some more anti-vehicle stuff (Fire Dragons for example) might be a good idea and certainly would recommend the extra Wave Serpents.
Vypers are another thing that would serve well, use them as heavy weapons platforms to force your opponent to choose between taking out a moving heavy weapons platform that might skewer their big guns or the moving transport that's going to deliver death to their lines.
ok, i will get another Wave Serpent or two, i want a seer council on bikes. so do i have to buy the models, then the bikes, and just stick them on the bikes?
Looking at GW's online catalogue there's only the Seer Council on foot which means it's a conversion job.
There's some good info on LO about how to do this or just google 'converting eldar farseer to farseer with jetbike'. There's some good information floating around (well, at least I hope nost of the stuff I've looked at works since I'm about to try this too).
The bike council is very cool and can be extremely lethal, but if you're just starting might i recommend something more along the lines of just a farseer with a couple of tricks and more falcons/waveserpents. The jet council is an extremely point intensive unit, and even though they get a 3++ save, everything in it still only has one wound and the seer insta-gibs on strength 6. so you end up paying ~600 points for 7 or 8 wounds. It can be very mean to be sure, but think of all the killing power you could buy with that many points. 3 fire prisms and 1 wave serpent, 2 full squads of shinning spears and a jet autarch, 4 squads of Exarch'd DA's. It's speed and versatility are awesome, and its resiliency is unbelievable, but then again, there are no power weapons there, so all it takes is an astute players to throw some high save sacrificial units on em and they are tarred the rest of the game. The foot slog council isn't too much worse, and its much cheaper. They are fleet so on a good roll they can assault as far as the bikes, and if you aren't spending the points on the bikes, you can get a tanks for em, which stays useful even after the council makes it to the desired location. Granted you don't get the turbo boost with the foot slog council, but with a tank, you get a flat out anyway.
I know its heresy around here to bemoan the jet council, but i'm going to! Not to mention that its a difficult conversion to make look good.
