Who hates the thousand sons? I'm pretty sure that i do. That 4+ is nasty business. Does any body have favorite strats for these obnoxious war mongers? I tend to go very power weapon/low ap heavy banshees/dragons/falcons so i got stopped big time when they kept getting their save. Even with two doom seers i really wasn't in place to kill enough of em. I'm think that as silly as it sounds a 40 guardian 20 DA list might do the trick with a guide/doom seer
There's really no easy way to do it. I played against them fairly recently for the first time in an objective game. And I must say, Making them take enough saves drops them quickly. So, instead of Banshees, run Striking Scorpions that extra strength and extra attack saved my life.
Also, Runes of Warding will work wonders since the sorcerer will have a much higher chance of suffering perils of the warp.
SI VIS PACEM PARA BELLUM
I mainly play eldar but my friends gave me the starting parts for my CSM army which just happens to be 1k sons based (played it several times with some proxies and friends models). Honestly just drown them in shots, a ten man squad in a rhino is going run 300+ points so eldar will actually out number 1k sons army by a decent amount unless your running a wraith army. The runes of warding are great as they can kill off any aspiring sorcerers that try to use a power which gets rid of the only power weapon in the group and also makes the 1k sons move only d6. A good melee unit should do nicely against them as they only have 1 attack around, 3+ is good but they do fail it. Wraithlord works also as they have no answers to it in melee. Sounds to me like you ran into a list that just matched up well against you. Good inv save against elite attacks, just bring more guns/bodies to the table next time.
Lastly remember that you can bring a 4+ rerolling inv save unit to the table. It's all about which side of the fence your on.
Almost forgot 1ksons units are not very good at dealing with armor, the sorcerer can have a str 8 power (which is pricey) and have a melta bomb thats it for AT from 1k sons squads.

Yeah i had him out numbered, but when i threw the banshees at him they went two complete game turns with out getting a kill even with doom helping them pull up those 5's. In hind sight his saves were INCREDIBLY hot. It took two doom'd bladestorms with only 4 models lost. So now that i think about it, i may have just gotten screwed on the dice.
In terms of anti tank he ran two obliterators for anti-tank and they did a fine job. I did make him take 3d6 for his phsyc and he still got it to fire 3 times lol.
I'm going to bring harlies against him next game i think.
while most marines can be beaten by quality attacks and units thousand sons are the exception, quantity is what gets past them.
while a LOT of ap3 weapons fire would be more likley to result in a kill or two, your best bet is simple bladestorms. focus on one unit at a time, pickign 3 modles off of 5 units will be less effective than one wiped out unit
