I would never have had this dilemma, I don't think I'd have made the purchase of my own accord, but my girlfriend randomly and very pleasantly bought me a large squad of swooping hawks because she thought they were the prettiest. Yay, thanks baby, it was a really nice thing to do. but then...
I was thinking about my army, I realized...damn I have no idea how to use a swooping hawk unit. I run a triple wraithlord avatar farseer pathfinders and dire avengers.
Where do these guys fit in? what powers are worth if on the exarch? It seems like they could be valuable for anti tank because they can get up and smack grenades easy, they can also shoot a high number of shots at a maximum range while on the move.
How do I use these guys??
Against IG, tyranids, Tau they are good. I used the sunrifle in addition to the great Eldar missile launcher and tempest launcher keeping half of an IG army pinned almost whole game.
With the skyleap power they are annoying to the enemy and can be redeployed to contest in last turn objectives.
And they are great to disable enemy vehicles, especially those pesky Land raiders with their haywire grenades.
And they are awesome models
One day, your Swooping Hawks will wreck a Monolith with haywire grenades, and your whole body will contort in euphoria as Eldrad Ulthran himself floods your fragile, human vision and gives you two thumbs way, way up.
"A little sincerity is a dangerous thing, and a great deal of it is absolutely fatal." -- Oscar Wilde
run them as a 5 man squad, exarch, with sky leap
then just jump up and down dropping bombs and last turn come down to contest.
always a good time haha

nice girlfriend. im jealous.
autarch + swooping hawks = lethal. makes sure they get to come in. that pie plate when they come in, combined with haywire grenades = holy cow.
Eldar: W-26, L-4, D-2, Tyranid: W-8, L-0, D-0
I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?
In response to the thread... i think swooping hawks would be great for any lmob army.. the got great plenty of shots from a distance while being able to maneuver away with wings...
the grenades will be great against Valkeries once ppl start using them or maybe DARK ELDAR skimmers in the near future...
ps: i wish i had a gf that would buy me Eldar models x_x </3
Space Marines -- Black Templars -- 2300pts
Imperial Guard -- Steel Legion -- 1800pts
I use them to harass lightly armoured units. Bye Bye Boyz
Yeah honestly a unit with a potential 24" effective grenade range (12 6 6) that never hits anything on worse than a 4 up is pretty great in further thinking.
Also, such a great range on a multi shot ASSAULT weapon is valuable, even if its a low strength.
Sounds like a valuable unit, i might have to invest in some of these!
Hawks are good models in my eyes, damn nice! Good at tearing apart horde armies! However their 22 points cost with silly lasblaster strength, they become ONLY good at destroying weaker armies. Not for marines im afraid!
