Hey guys, long time no see! I took a year and a half out of the hobby and only began collecting again two weeks ago. Anyway, 30 hours, one roll of greenstuff and a couple of knife wounds later, this is the first model of my 'Arach'nid fleet. It's my devilfex The reason for the conversion is firstly because I'm aiming for an arachnid themed fleet, and the second because I hate how the Devilfex looks, it's the T-Rex of the 40k universe! The body and size of it is screaming "I WILL EAT YOU!" and then you look at it's tiny little arms and burst into laughter I was aiming to get away from that look.
Forgive me for the pictures, if anyone remembers my last post here you'll understand just how terrible my camera skills are
The model doesn't really feel finished to me, so criticisms of it are welcome I'm still wanting to bulk it up alot, it still looks a little too skinny at the moment and I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
But that's enough of me talking. Looking forward to see what you guys think
You appear to have a few mould lines around the vents on the back but apart from that it's looking nice and beastly . It still keeps a tyraniddy feel despite having excessive limbs which is always a good thing. I know what you mean about the devilfex looking a bit weird though, which is why some people create converted devourercannons but this is a viable idea too and it seems you've pulled it off pretty well.
Good to see you back, anyway . Got any finalised ideas for a paintscheme?
Oh yeah Thanks for that, hadn't noticed them ^^ I'll get filing.
As for a paint scheme I think I'm going to stick for a black skin and ice blue carapace Or something similar. Since I've not bought any paints or paintbrushes yet, I'm still quite flexible
I think you have certainly succeeded in capturing what you want to achieve with your fleet with this, bug
As you said about it being a bit thin at the moment, I think spiders in general have quite thin thorax so this could be a nice feature to include(as well as the insanely large abdomen on some species, possibly using it to your advantage)
Typing Tyranids into Coolminiornot is a pretty darn good way to research paint schemes and find inspiration. However, seeing as you are doing an Arach'nid theme, perhaps looking at different types of spiders may show something.
I'm quite tempted to make a carnifex like this now but it'll be a long time coming so don't worry lol
Can't wait to see his big bruvva!
That is a very cool looking bug you have there. I think that it is good to theme a Hive fleet. The work you have done on the devourer cannons is cool. I think that you should be careful with the mould lines creeping in. There are still some on the weapons and talons. Cool bug, you should do more and show us this one when it is painted. Reppy for you.
Thanks guys I'll be sure to check out coolminiornot Blackadder, will definately need inspiration before I ever try to put a brush to it
And thanks for pointing out the mould lines on the talons Leech, I hadn't noticed them, will file those when I get round to doing the vents There'll definately be more I'm working on my sniperfex at the moment, should be done sometime next week at this rate
Chaos Space Marines has Defiler, we have Devilfex
Looks really shooty.
