Battlewagon w/ deff rolla, 2 big shootas, armor plates, grot riggers, red paint
Looted Wagon w/ boomgun, big shoota
First game was against Guard, on a board with no terrain (like 1 set of trees, 1 hill, and 2 buildings). He had 3 mobbed up infantry platoons, 1 HWS, 3 Russes, and 2 Vet squads in Chimeras. Annihilation, Pitched Battle. I let him go first, so he spread his army across the board with 3 Russes in the middle and Chimeras on the right flank. I deployed all my vehicles heavy to the left, put the Lootas and Grots in the woods on the right, and outflanked the Kopta. His shooting was ineffectual (3 BS3 lascannons and 3 LRBTs with hull lascannons, yawn), either failing to damage or bouncing off my KFF. Lootas popped 1 Chimera and his HWS and everything else rushed up. I lost 1 Trukk and then I was in his lines, each Trukk mob wiping out a 30 man squad of guardsmen. The Deff Kopta showed up and popped a Chimera, charging the guys inside and running them down. I had lost a Trukk and a handful of Orks and was closing in one his last infantry mob and 3 static Russes when we decided to call it. This is one of the guys I normally play on the weekends so it was a fun game.
Second game was against Guard again, on a board with even less terrain. He had 5 Russes (squadron of 2 LRBTs and 1 Demolisher, Eradicator, Vanquisher), 1 Vendetta, and a bunch of Vet squads with plasma. Capture and Control, Spearhead. I let him go first and he picked the quarter opposite the quarter with 1 tiny hill in the whole area for me. Crap. He put his russes in a wall, hiding his Vets behind. I put my choo-choo train as far forward as possible and stuck the Lootas and Grots on the hill, Deff Kopta outflanking. His turn, everything bounced off my KFF or failed to penetrate (pro tip: Don't squadron LRBTs and Demolishers, S10 vs AV14 is cool, S8 vs AV14 is stupid). I ran up in his face, Lootas had nothing to do but take pot shots at side armor. He nailed 1 Trukk and everything else bounced off or failed to pen. At this point he demanded that we both use my dice, essentially calling me a cheater to his face. Classy. This guy is one of our local "competitive" crowd, a decent guy to hang with until he puts his toys on the table, then he becomes a massive pick. I was playing nice before, but after that gem, no more Mr. Nice Guy. My boyz hopped out and charged his static tanks (Pro Tip: If you're going to be charged, MOVE!). My Warboss charged the Demolisher and thanks to the squadron rules he blew up all 3 (you should have seen his face, he had no idea how that worked lol), while another mob destroyed the Eradicator. After that, it was a simple matter of running up and beating his Vets to death. The Vendetta outflanked on my objective and went after the Grots, but the Lootas saw his Vets off in assault. At the end he had maybe 5 Vets, a weaponless and immobile Vanquisher and the Vend. The best part was him using my dice and rolling worse (karma's a bitch). Big fat prickface, suck it loser (last I saw him he was stomping in some 8 year old's face in the last round, the very definition of class).
Game 3 was against Chaos on the first board again. He had 2 Lash Princes, Termies in a Land Raider, Zerkers in a Rhino, Plague Marines in a Rhino, 2x CSM in Rhinos, a Defiler, Vindicator, and Oblits. Seize Ground and Dawn of War. He went first and I deploy nothing. I came on , my armored column rushing the middle and the Lootas coming in on the right flank. I deployed like a knuckle head and got punished. He knocked out a Trukk and Lashed the boyz into the Defiler (sticking the PK at the long end of the conga line). The Defailure fought for 4 rounds without the PK and managed to kill 3 boyz, as soon as the Nob showed up he blew it up and killed half his unit. With some good maneuvering and shoddy play on my part he managed to pop most of my transports and kill most of my boyz. He Lashed my KFF away, Lashed my Meganobs together and dropped a Demolisher shell on them. It was looking bad until I realized my Grots and Lootas were unhurt. Deff Kopta came in and popped the Vindicator. I held 2 objectives to his 2 on turn 5, so I turbo-boosted my Kopta to contest. And of course we go into turn 6. Kopta dies, my handful of boyz get pushed off of their objective and he takes it. I sent everything to wipe out the 4 Plague Marines holding it, sending Grots to grab it. The Big Mek charges them from an angle I figured would draw them off the objective and held them in combat. Game ended and we checked, he was just inside 3" of the objective and contested. He won 2-1. Great guy to play against and a really good player, got 2nd overall.
Wound up with 5th overall, just outside of prize range. If I hadn't deployed so stupidly in the last game I would have won, but that's a good lesson learned.
Lots of Guard, lots of Marines, no terrain to be seen. Next time I'm bringing a box of my own just to make sure. It's not like the store doesn't have enough, looks like the TO just got lazy placing stuff. All in all, it was a good time.
Good to see you did well with a fun army. I really like your list, as it requires skill to play, and can adapt to a variety of situations, opponents, and battlefields.
Description of your 2nd game had me laugh out loud, and for the 3rd, well, 2 lashes is as evil as it gets...

Glad to hear you did well, and I like the army you used. It's always nice to see balance and skill trump new codex 'cheese'. ^_^
I had a similar result with a fairly similar army (I had bikes instead of lootas, and rokkit buggies instead of looted boomguns and deffkoptas) at a local tournament. I did very well the first two games, even beating the guy who eventually won the tournament (it was a marginal victory and he tabled his next two opponents, giving him the most points), but a cheesy 'double lash' Chaos army with very very few killpoints beat me in an annihilation mission.
Yeah, terrain is really up to the people who set up the tournaments, and while some favor a good amount, some want to use virtually none at all, which is difficult to deal with when you're expecting at least an average amount of terrain.
All in all, good job!

The last game was probably the most fun because it was so close. The guy came up from Ithaca so I'd never seen him before, but he was a great guy and the total opposite of TFG from game 2. I goofed ==My== deployment big time and if I had not run ==My== vehicles up the middle I could have made a big kill zone in the middle, as Lootas > DPs. Fun Lash tricks was really just icing on the cake, he played a great game and definitely earned that win.
That terrain thing was so stupid, it didn't really hinder ==Me== that much as I always bring the KFF but one of ==My== buddies playing bugs got stomped on by a SAFH Eldar army and there was nothing he could do. Next tourney (in August) I'm going to insist we go for at least 25% terrain, even if the players have to bring a piece or two. We can even do prizes for best piece of terrain.
That's a very interesting list! But i'm glad to see you did well. How many people showed up for this tournament? It sounds like a fair amount of people were there
I'd say around 20 or so, lots of people running around.
First off congrats with making it 5th.
Secondly I could see how you could defeat his first list easily. He was only using one HWS which is idiotic. At least have two if your going to play with them. And he had his leman russ battle tanks in the center when he should have spread them out. I do have a question about his first shooting attempt. Did he give orders to the HWS and did he fire everything on the LRBT's? And what exactly did he have on the LRBT's?
Your second IG opponent I wouldnt let him use my dice. I would take offense to it. Where I come from we have a lot of dice superstision. Most of us make sure that our dice is the same color of our army and one guy rolls out all his dice first so that they are all ones.
Pretty much sounds like you had fun so thats all that matters.
Not going to lie, when I saw 'Tourney report' and 'Me' I instantly started thinking it'd be a list like 5 battlewagons or equally painful, and lo and behold I find a list that's all but identical to lists I normally run (minor edits to the flavor units like the looted wagon etc). Kudos on the performance and I'm happy to see people running tournament lists that DON'T give Ork players a powergaming slant. Although, something tells me that many of those players have run off to go play IG or some such.
Thanks for the rundown!
Hey, good job on fifth place.
Your list was nice and it seems you played very well, considering the unfavourable terrain setups. Unlucky with the third game deployment, but at least you learnt some nice lessons and got some more experience.
Well done again and thanks for sharing your experience.
