Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I've posted before on here about being a rather big Ork newbie..but I've learned and worked hard since that day. I have gotten two AoBR boxes now, splitting one evenly with one friend and only paying $20 for the second (What a deal!). So now I sit here with the following --
1 warboss -
I'm pondering what I should put on him? I'm guessing a Cybork body would be a nice upgrade for him? Or is 'eavy armor good enough? I like putting him with a group of boyz to give him the cover and then get him in close. PK is obviously a necessity though.
2x 30 Boyz (Sluggas)
I haven't been playing with any Nobs in them since I didn't really know if you need a Nob unit in there or if you can just put a PK and BP on one of your boyz and call it a day? Also, Waagh banner on the Nob as well perhaps? It seems almost necessary.
10 x Nobs
Not sure what do with these guys. I know footsloggin' them is a terrible idea..but when they've managed to get up close they've wrecked havoc. Still need to get some PK on them. The buddies and people I've played with have been rather strict on WYSIWYG, weird since they are just friendly games. EIther way, been using Nobs with no PKs..bad idea. Also, Warboss with the Nobs and put em all in a Trukk?
Im thinking of going for 8 Nobs, Painboy with Grot Orderly and WB with them. Two PKs and Cybork bodies..how does that sound?
Lastly..I've picked up a few extra goodies along my way.
I bought a Big Mek with KFF but haven't put him together. Somehow..SOMEHOW I lost his head piece. easily solved since I'll just use my extra Warboss model (from the second AoBR set) and use his head (and PK for a nob). I am guessing he will be pretty mandatory for my 'unit heavy' ork army.
Lastly, a Weirdboy. God I love him when he works, hate him when he doesn't. Last game I rolled a 5, got excited about teleporting my guys in and BAM...mishapped off the table and lost an entire 20 boyz squad and my Weirdboy in my first turn. It could been amazing to pop my boyz up in the first turn right in crumpin but..didn't work. Should I just drop the Weirdboy since he is so unpredictable.
Sorry about this ridiculously long post, just wondering where I should go from here.
Trukks obviously, or maybe a Battlewagon? Im looking to get into tournaments ASAP. Friendly games are great and all but well..Orkz love the glory as much as I do!
Hi im quite new too but i have gotten my army together and working
First of, you need powerklaws every squad boys need a nob with PK, this is the core of any ork army
Second, you need trukks, how many is up to you, I would go with 4, but I am speed freek so you should properly go with less, your nobs NEED one thou, and you should have one more to split the fire it attracts,
Third, try to make your nob squad smaller, just a bit, number of PK's are and dont put your warboss with them, or ALL fire will be pointed at that squad if you do i know, try to put him in an 'ard squad if you can
Fourth, if your friends keep buggin you about WYSIWUG, with the 'ard boys point out that there are no 'ard models, and if that dont stop them SMACK 'EIR EADS TOGEHER
this is all the advice i dare give, use it as you wish

Wazzog warboss of the piledrivers
Boys squads really need a nob with power klaw, otherwise a marine player will just charge you with a dread, then they are stuck. Bosspoles are a good choice for nobs in boys squads, take them if you feel you need them (squads of 12 in a trukk generally do need one). Shoota boys are always a good investment trukks are usually worth having too.
Stuff to buy? Lootas are good for anti light-med tank jobs, I generally field 2-3 squads of 7. If you are facing lots of armour 14 (land raiders/monoliths) then you need way more power klaws as they are the most reliable way to drop them. Best on killa kans for S10, meganobs are also good raider hunters (just watch out for the termies likely inside the raider)
Get more boys too.
OK... The boss - PK, Shoota, I have heard a lot of players say either Cybork or 'eavy, and most lean to Cybork 'cuz you can roll it on power weapons when you get in CC. I run both - as I think it fluffy that he would have 'eavy before cybork, and then why would he ditch his armour? But I play fluff.
Da Boyz - take a nob from your nob mob and put him in the troop, give him a PK (please!) and if you are running 30 boyz, you dont need a transport as long as you are willing to lose 12 or so boyz before you get into CC. It is nice to take at least one trukk unit to get up there and initiate combat give your boys some releaf from being shot at.
Also, if you are walking 30 boyz, I would recommend shoota boyz - I am currently converting all my AoBR boyz into shootas - I bought 20 slugga/choppa arms off ebay (for $1 + shipping) and am giving them two sluggas (gansta style) calling them shootas (as all they do is shoot). Just cutting them at the wrist and sticking a new hand/gun on, and with all those extra choppas...
The nobs need a trukk and some weapons. I got a great link for making PKs from extra choppas (Power Klaw How-To - Da WAAAGH).
I love the weirdboy, but always, ALWAYS, upgrage to a warp'ead (though you probably should not always listen to me...??)
The Mek is good, stick any nob/boss head on him and have fun.
Oh, and tell your friends to chill, fun and learn to accept the big green footprints that will soon be covering thier models, armies, cities, grandmother's cat and so forth. : )
And I vote trukk and before battlewagon (but again, I play for fluff). You gotta junk around in the beater before you can cruise in style.
Hosea 1:11 - Great will be the day of Jezreel.
If your looking for a close range warboss then give him an attack squig, shoota kombi burna and of course a pk. But if you want shooty use a twin linked shoota to make up for the BS of 2 or a shoota-rokkit launcha. A close range warboss in a mob of nobs should wreak havoc in the thick of the meele.
I don't use Weirdboyz and don't intend to.
Yes go for Painboyz, since feel no pain is awesome! Realize that if you're Warboss is in the squad of Nobs with the Painboy then he should get the feel no pain also.
The big mek with the K.F.F. is awesome but if you put him in a Trukk or battle wagon then you get to measure the range of the K.F.F. from the hull of the vehicle.
Two thinks for your vehicle choices. Tankbusta's (all Tankbustas with Rokkit launchers) in a battle wagon (with rokkit launchers) with a Killakannon is extra shooty. Or a trukk with Burna Boyz is a good choice too.
Shoota boys are quite good and it is worth getting some. AoBR boys are fairly easy to convert with actual shoota arms if you can get the parts. All the AoBR boys without shoulder guards over their arms (a bit more than 1/2 of them from memory) are the ones you want, clip the arms off and they are practically identical to multipart boys from normal boxes. The ones with shoulder guards in the way can be done, it just takes more effort.
Boys boxes will add variety to your models (you will have heaps, it helps if they don't all look the same) and they come with power klaws and rokkits (I converted 10 ish rokkits from boys boxes into a tankbusta squad).
