Welcome to Librarium Online!
Good morning all,
I'm making a 2k list, and it needs to be an "all-around" force. The guys at the local GW store, have 2-3 forces, so I never know what I'll be facing.
Currently, I'm looking at 2 HQ ( shas'el ), and 2 E ( crisis teams ). My third E will be a stealth team, and if you have any opinions of how I should equip it please let me know.
Thanks in advance for all the help.
The fireknife crisis suit loadout has always been the "all-rounder" suit build. And you can easily afford 2 units of 3 fireknives plus 1 fireknife commander in any 2000 pts list. So start there.
As for stealths, I really think a small 3-man team with a markerlight on the team leader and two marker drones on him as well a pretty good deal. (170 pts) Sitting in the backfield, it gives you mobile markerlight support that is nigh untouchable.
Using stealths in their primary anti-infantry role can be dicey, depending on the terrain available. It may work out well, it may be a problem. The stealth field can be relied upon to keep them alive until they are in burst cannon range, but once they're there, it isn't too difficult for most 5th edition armies to pierce that field and shoot or assault them off the table. And for infiltration/harrassment work, Kroot are just a much more efficient choice.
I'm not a fan, personally, of putting fusion blasters on Stealths and hunting armour with them. Some people like it, but IMHO that is just letting your suits get WAY too close to the enemy for comfort.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Do you know if the guys you'll be facing have any units with tanks or more importantly any Ordnance weapons. I play guard and my freind hates when his battlesuits go up in a blaze of instant death! You'll need to get around this if your playing any IG players.
A normal ML counts as a "heavy weapon", so I can't see it being used in a stealth team. As long as they move, the ML is useless. I like the MD idea, though I don't know if I'd buy two.
I'm pretty sure I'll be facing IG, so I have some ideas. I'll have at least 2 crisis with FBs, I'm still going with a stealth team with 2 FBs, and either 2 HH or 1 HH and a XV88 team.
I'll have some crisis with MPs, so as long as a tank has a weak backside, I'll try to get around to it.
Go ideas currently, are there more?
Male...Stealths have the relentless rule they can move and fire their markerlights.

Now that makes sense, now don't it?
Still not too sure if I want a standard ML and 2 MDs though...
i have used a 3 man stealth team with 6 marker drones before and my opponent hated that he couldn't target them, as he usually went for my pathfinders, in the end he lost two 10 man shock trooper units trying to assault me lol. it is however an expesive unit, clocking in at a minimum of 270pts, 290pts if you have teal leader, bonded and a markerlight for the team leader! but having a mobile markerlight stealth team that can outflank is imo better than a regular pathfinder team
I would go with two Fireknife Shas'els clocking in at 97 points a pop, one Deathrain team with two Battlesuits clocking in at 106 points (extremely good against light to medium armour and relatively solid against infantry as well) then go with one Fireknife team to round it out.
Regarding the Stealth Suits, there are two builds I would personally recommend:
1) 6 Stealth Suits, plain. At only 180 points for this unit, it gives you a solid unit with a lot of shots without breaking your wallet.
2) 3 Stealth Suits with 2 Markerdrones and a team leader with a markerlight. A bit more expensive (last I checked) but a very nice support unit. The ability to be mobile and difficult to target with some markerlights is a blessing.
Besides those two builds, I wouldn't recommend much else for Stealth Suits, personally.
Just because I'm a none conformist, and don't use Fireknifes. I'd say go for Deathrains with a Flamer, and Torch squads with a MP. :p
I use my first HQ as a TEQ squad killer, having 3 Helio suits and 3 ML drones. My second HQ is a deepstriking Monat most of the time, with TL-Fusions and a Flamer. and my elites are as stated above.
Might try reducing the ML in the hq and adding them to the stealth team though.
