Welcome to Librarium Online!
Good morning all,
I was wondering, how everyone feels, about pathfinders having rail rifles?
From these forums, it would seem, people prefer a team of six pathfinders. So if I have a team of 7 or 8, and gave the 1 or 2 rail rifles, would it be worth it?
Thanks in advance for all the help.
I'm very much against Rail Rifle Pathfinders. Sum is that you're paying 17 points for one shot a turn in a squad that traditionally gets targeted and obliterated fast, and losing that all-important markerlight to do it. to be honest, the markerlight hit itself is just far more useful than any three Rail Rifle shots.
I fight for the Greater Good. Too bad for you it's MY Greater Good.

I thought you might like to see the thread if you are interested in Railrifle equipped Pathfinders. Here is the link >>>http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...h-thought.html.
Now I would not advise this unit without other ML presence in the list and I would advise its use in 1700 to 2000pt lists only (maybe 1500pt at a squeeze). See what you think.
Rail rifles are way cool. And in previous incarnations of my army list I used to run two teams of 5 pathfinders each, dreaming of the day when I could add 3 rail rifles to each of those units. Because, after all, 10 markerlights plus the pair from my Skyray were sufficient. And yet, I never could find the points available for such things. I needed FWs, Kroot, Devilfish, Crisis Suits, etc, so badly that I couldn't see dropping anything to make room for those rifles.
It was at this point that I started changing my list and playstyle up. I realized I wanted more MEQ killing ability than my list was giving me the ability to do. Switching out my deathrains for additional fireknives and using more piranhas to control enemy movement (as opposed to just 1 for the fun harassment value) has given me the ability to kill more MEQs per turn and keep them farther away for longer, too. I have a few fewer markerlights now, but those markerlights all go to good use, so ... no complaints there.
All this is to say that, if you have "enough" markerlights, I don't see any problem with including rail rifles. They look cool-- Heck. they are cool! I just solved the problem in a different way. I'd be very interested to know how well rail rifles work out if you do give them a shot. I think they could have a place. Most opponents in my area run heavily mechanized lists, however, which was another detractor for rail rifles. They're only useful if you have guys open on the table! If you're running up against at least partially footslogging MEQ armies, rail rifles could be very useful.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.
