I've been wanting to do a themed 'nid army for a while now. I was thinking of 'borrowing' an idea from leech and base it of an animal. I was thinking spiders? Maybe Snakes? I think snakes would take up too much Green stuff though.
can anyone think of any good animals or any way to convert my whole army into spider nids?
When I first saw this I thought it was a thread created purely for the purpose of spamming! You could use these. Games Workshop They are spiders and they are plastic, easily converted into Tyranids. I have got some and they provide plently of bits like special bases with wee spiders on them. Remove those spider parts to make your own bases more spidery.
There is also this Games Workshop and this lot too Games Workshop The smaller spiders could make Ripper swarms.
There is also Shelob who could become a Hive tyrant wih some work, Games Workshop and look she comes with a victim/Hobbit. You can always use that to enhance a base of some critter and say it's a small child, children make such good victims.
Thinking about that it is fairly easy using string and a watered down coat of PVA to seal it to make victims in spider silk. I have found that if you theme an army around an animal you need to do things to make your bugs feel like they have something in common with that animal as converting all of them is very hard. For example if you were doing a fishy-hive Spore mines would look like jelly fish, feeder tendrils would be an octopus face etc. You should look over the Tyranid range for the bugs that have something in common with spiders. Think of spider features such as the fangs, give you Tyranids fangs if possible. Scything talons resemble long spider limbs, but crushing claws aren't so spidery, more crab or scorpion-like.
Also check out Buglands, http://buglands.moonfruit.com/#/ente...est/4517152266 Navvaro has done several spider conversions that you could use to help you along.

Thanks Leech. I want to try and keep as 'niddy' as possible So I was thinking of basic nid bodies with spider legs. Do the goblin spiders size up right?
Navarro has merged some of them with Hormagaunts in Buglands. They are biggish but they do seem to be a good size for Tyranid warriors. The legs aren't separate though, they are made as one single piece plastic spiders. I am going to use the ones I've got as Tyranid warriors, but mine will be more like scorpions, I haven't made them yet or I would show you what I've done. I think one on the abdomens has a Goblin symbol on it so that has to be covered or removed. I think that they will take some work but overall they will make a good brood.
Thanks Blood Boy. So I could't cut the legs off the spiders?
See the toothy bit on the swamp bug in this link, just below the adrenal gland. That is the one of the spiders silk spinners at the back of them. http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z...bedSwamp12.jpg

thanks leech. Would paper clips and green stuff work? I was thinking of usinf spare arms for my fexes legs?
well black drybrusged to scorched brown should look spidery for the body. The carapace I'm not too sure about. Maybe a gloss black?
That colour scheme should work. Spiders come in loads of different colours so the sky's the limit really. If you do the carapace black you should include some sort of colour along the edges of the carapace or just gloss black on it's own may look a little flat. Red along the edges would add a brighter colour and things like Black widow spiders have a red hourglass on them so red might fit in well.
