I really like the ravener models. but I was wondering if I should have some in my army. The amount of points they cost seems like it is better spent elsewhere, but they have quite a lot of attacks. If I were to get them, what should I give them? I was thinking of scything talons and rending claws.
First of all, what style of Tyranids do you play? An all out combat assault, a lay back shooty style, or balanced with a bit of each.
I think Raveners are a great addition to an army. They are fast, they can be good in combat, and their general statline is quite good.
If you go for combat, go with Scything Talons and Rending Claws. If you want shooty, go for Scything Talons and Devourers, and if you want balanced, go for whatever you want. I suppose balanced wouldn't be much different to shooty. Good luck. ^_^
I use broods of 3, 2 with st's and devourers and the third with rc's. this allows me to still put a hurting on those other crappy save armies out there while still being able to cause decent damage to the more armored sm's and csm's. plus there speed both over open ground and through difficult terrain allows me to get them in to contact very quickly usually by the second turn ,without having to rely on fleet of foot rolls. just be sure to hug terrain as much as possible because there going to draw fire and with a t of 4 can be auto killed easily.
I adopted a cute lil' dragon fetus
from Fetusmart! Hooray fetus! </a>
Thanks guys I'm going to go to the local GW store today and get some raveners.
I prefer mine with all ScyTal + RenClw... Their shooting sucks and I find them most effective in CC where they can block LOS.
My tactics utilize them as fast spooks, designed to unnerve the enemy into shooting them or risk casualties. To ensure my opponent needs to pour maximum fire into them, I field them in as many and as small broods as I can... They're so fragile that a single unit could decimate a single brood of 2-3 within a single shooting phase. Thus, it's clearly much better to field them in 2-3 broods of 1, where the opponent must shoot each Ravener with a different unit to get rid f them all.
And if worst comes to it, even a single Ravener can quickly move to a table quarter to contest it, denying my opponent lots of points.
"The meat things seek to destroy ourselves. They hunt us as we hunt them but they are weak and uncertain. The inferior flesh will be entirely destroyed, all biomatter consumed. Ourselves will fight to the last, all weak flesh must be devoured."
i prefer raveners with ST and RC. If you take it with devourers you make 6 shoot (S3 AP6), a suck except if you shoot at very very light infantry. The ravener must be use to engage the critical units of the enemy and usually they aren´t light infantry.
The ravener with SC and RC can take out tanks and can kill SM very well.... so if the 75% of players use SM and tanks ... the choose is very simple ...
And .... HTE MODEL IS BETTER WITH ST AND RC..
either ST and RC is going against armies with good save, or if you are going to face something like orks or IG 2 pair of ST, this gives them a very high amount of attacks when they charge
