As I am sure many players would, I would love to get a 10 man squad of Wraithguard to field in my army. However, to get the standard GW models I would have to buy 10 individual models at $15 a piece (and that's without tax). My question is does anyone have any suggestions as to what conversions, etc. I could do to make something that can act as Wraithguard, just for less money? Has anyone made any Wraithguard alternative models themselves?
your kind of shit out of luck on that one bud, try ebay, thats your best bet. i got 8 of them for like 40 bucks
My Tomb Kings Project
As Necrons said, ebay would be your best bet.
You may be able to get them at a discount by some online store. I am in the UK so I could not advise you any websites but if I go by miniaturesbypost.com I am able to get 10 by second class delivery for just over £60 where as in store it would cost me 80.
I have heard rumors that they are being made into plastics but dont quote me. ( if they were I wonder if they would come in 5's or 10 )

Eldar WRAITHGUARD Unit 10X Warhammer 40K wraith guard - eBay (item 320390904790 end time Jul-28-09 09:56:51 PDT)
Thats the best I can do for you man. After shipping youd save about 30 bucks before tax. There is no cheap way to field them. Watch for used models on ebay, and I have also heard the rumour that they may be coming in plastic someday....
The best I can say is look for used Wraithguard on ebay. Go for bad paintjobs and the like, as they usually sell cheaper and are easy to strip since they are metal.
I own twenty of the little (er... big) buggers and they didn't really come at a cheap price. I think the cheapest I got any one Wraithguard was for $8 local from a guy who didn't play Eldar, but for some reason had one in an unopened blister.
If you can find any Wraithguard for less than $10 each, you are doing good.
I will say, with a nice paintjob, Wraithguard look friggin' scary on the table. Fielding to full squads along with three Wraith Lords make people take pause at the faceless warriors.
Arvan'drynn Craftworld - 15,000pts (deceased)
Tau - 2,000 points (atomized while on patrol)
I think Ive seen a conversio making use of Necron warrior parts and a DIY head, and another using DA bodies and helmets. The second one had the crest part cut/filed off, one of those Shuriken cannon packs (those round things on the HW sprues), Starcannon nozzles on the back (those separate starshaped pieces) , and the weapon was a combination of catapult and starcannon nozzle (the front this time...).
Sure, both looked a tiny bit weedy, but you asked for cheap alternatives... Hope this helps!

Otherwise eBay or buy from someone who has them and doesn't need it anymore at your local hobby shop (if any).
