A whatatyrant? what do all these names mean?

I've been browsing around this site for a while now, and im still confused about the names that people seem to be giving units...mostly carnifexes and hive tyrants. I know that these names denote certain upgrades but for the most part i cant quite figure out what upgrades these names entail.

Could people help me with this, by nameing as many configurations as they know and what they mean.

    Thanks in advance

If you check out the sticky thread on Tyrant and Carnifex builds, you'll see what most of them have.

Alternatively, you could try and make up your own bad-ass names for them.

Post a few, we can help you out. Here's some of the most common:

dakkafex: carnifex with dual twin-linked devourers.
sniperfex: carnifex with venom-cannon/barbed strangler combo.
    flyrant: tyrant with wings.

So you just want for fexii and tyrants then?

    Oh well...

    Dakkafex/Devilfex(Elite)
An carnifex build with Enhanced senses and 2x twin-devourers

    Ninjafex(Elite)
A carnifex variant that has a description in the codex. 2x scy-tal and an upgrade...

    Godfex(Heavy)
Smack on every defensive upgrade you can have and smack on some weapons, done.

    Sniperfex(Heavy)
Barbed strangler, venom cannon and enhanced senses are the basics.

    Boomfex(Elite)
    Scy-tals and a barbed strangler.

    Boomfex(Heavy)
    Barbed strangler, Death spitters
    ___________________________________________________

    Flyrant
Basic tyrant with wings. Smack on whatever weapons/upgrades you like

    Scytherant(Walking)
A tyrant with 2x scy-tals and often toxin sacs. Warp blast is a quite common upgrade along with some guards

    Scytherant(Flying)
Same as above but with warp field, wings and no guards

    Dakkarant(Walking)
2x twin-devourers, toxin sacs and enhanced senses. Guards are common. Can be usefull with Psychic scream

    Dakkarant(Flying)
Same as above but with wings and without guards. Usually with Warp field instead of Psychic scream

    Sniperant
A tyrant with Barbed strangler, Venom cannon, Toxin sacs and guards. The shadow in the warp could suitable due to it sitting in at the back of the table. You won't see these guys flying... Too often...

Those are the ones I can drag out the back of my head, hope it cleared up a bit for you. ^^

    Cheers!

There are also name combinations that you may see from time to time. Like a beefed up Carnifex with two twinlinked devourers may be a Dakka Godfex. Or one with a venom cannon and barbed strangler will be called a Sniper Godfex. People may sometimes cook up their own names for their bugs, I always do that, a new or odd name should be explained somewhere in the thread that is dicussing it.

There are also smaller things like the Spinegaunt (Gaunts with spinefists) and a few others. The psychic choir is a brood of Zoanthropes, possibly with the aid of one or more Hive tyrants. All of these Zoanthropes and any Hive tyrants with them have been given psychic scream. They will try to use all these psychic screams by ganging up on people and forcing morale tests while their LD is dropped.
