Hello all , I have been collecting orks for a few months now and my first game is coming up against a friends imperial guard when he is back from uni !
I'm really struggling to write an armylist il enjoy and I'm alittke concerned his units will completely outclass my choices , I know he has at least a Valkyrie or two , a leman russ , a couple of sentinels , and alot of heavy weapons squads (he likes big guns) our points limit initially is 1000pts.
I'm desperate for any suggestions on what is good versus imperial guard n how to use it , my list is currenty ghazghkull + snikrot combo with kommandos , but what else to use I'm not sure , I do love the idea of a dakka army reinforcing that brutal assault maybe Manz also?
Please help! (ecspecially grax if you have time)
Hmmmm. Well I can suggest taking a squad of tankbustas (if you have them) they will really help with the tanks. I also suggest getting a few killa kans with grotzookas these absolutly eat guard and should help a little with the hw and larger squads. if you have Zagstuk and some stormboyz get them in with any elite units or troublesome units (- tanks).
Cover will be really helpful to you saving tons of your boyz from extinction from the bulked lasgun and hw fire.
OH and finally the ultimate ork unit i can think of for fighting guard are burna boyz. put them in transports and then get them to the front ASAP there burnas should do the rest (remember that burnas melt guard )
Another good unit are warbikers whose dakkaguns ignore all guard armor (except techprists) and if your not close by turbo-boost for a handy 3+ cover save.
Be conserative but don't stand still, orks CANNOT outshoot guard
thanks alot for the advice , i guess your right i shoudnt be trying to outshoot a shooty army like guard, instead i need to concentrate on getting upclose fast and do some krumpin!!
as i said before so far my list consists of Ghaz + Snikrot with kommandos n a couple of burna boyz , this should get to grips with the top priority threat , ive heard Burnas suggested a few times , but then in other threads ive seen them absolutely slated , so really not sure on them yet! i love the idea of hulking behemoths crashing into his lines , Ghaz is one of them but maybe battlewagons n dreads for the others?
really confused! and i need direction towards a better synergy!
IMO you should take out snikrot replace with PK nob,bp
really im not to fond of Gas either i suggest
A Big Mek, KFF with burna and squig,
(he really is the best HQ the orks get, point for point)
he can cover the army as they advance and be usefull when he arrives with his I4 power weapon
the Kans should help as previously suggested and fit right in with the big mek
(mek with 20-30 boyz, within 6" of Kans, but hes better off in a BW to cover more area with the Kff)
Ghaz + snikrot is somthing that HAS to be in this list , i have tailored specific models and fluff for them (ghaz is converted to represent the warboss 'tuska demon killa' from the codex , and him appearing with snikrot+kommandos represents him returning from the warp to crush his enemys)
maybe a slower shootier army isnt the way to go as someone mentioned about outshooting imp guard , so instead ive been wracking my brains (ouch) trying to come up with a complementing CC list , somthing that can capatilize on the distraction of ghaz+snikrot rolling a flank , so any suggestions on units/combinations to deliver a brutal 2nd turn assault?
The person I play most is a guard player and I have to say my mvps of each match is generally 12 Slugga&Choppa boyz, 1 is Nob with PK/Bosspole, mounted in a Trukk w/ Reinforced Ram. Bring two or three trukks so he hopefully can't blow them ALL up before you get your assault in and add in a battlewagon carrying a Big Mek with Kustom Force Field to help keep everything moving. The Battlewagon will also make a good home for Ghaz, (though I find even a normally warboss is a bit overkill against guard..) and then fill it with more boys or bring some burnas as others have suggested.
I absolutley love a unit of 8 Kommandos w/ 2 Burnas + Snikrot against any army. Versus guard he can be especially useful at messing up their gunlines or wrecking a tank thats been hanging out in his back field. However with the new guard codex and the character that adds 1 to the roll I need for reserves each turn (Astropath..?) I have been less inclined to start anything in reserve at all at risk of it showing up too late to the party.
Anyway, speed is your friend against guard. Get in cc as early as possible and you're laughing.

its to bad you cant fit in the Kff, with your army choices YOU CANNOT outshoot IG so i agree with Thrillho but only for your list
a shooty Ork army is a sight to be seen
and its even better when they hit what they're shooting at
i think Orks can out-shoot the IG at least in volume of shots
2 big mek Shock Attack Gun-220?pts
3unitsx 15 Loota's-675pts
9x buggies- 3 units(BS or rokkits your choice)-315?pts with rokkits
and i would go with
9x kannons instead of looted wagons and Kans to save points for
as many shoota boyz as you can
at 2000 pts you should have 500pts or so for boyz
should be about 60 with 3 pk Nobz,bp
then use remaining points to add big shootas to units
(maybe drop a unit of lootas for more boyz)
(i did guestimate as i cant seem to find my Codex)
i think with this kind of fire power even the IG would think twice about having a shoot out

well every one underestimates the orks big style they think they are idiots with guns.... they are idiots with guns dont depend on tank bustas or any ork big guns most guard palyers play guard for big guns its like ... oh look its a land raider lets nail it with 4 pie plates jobs a good one or look battle wagon kill it!!! they completly forget about power claws. nob squads with pks in loadsa truks. i have noticed no one uses ghazkull hes the hardest thing in the ork army S.10 8 attacks on the charge WS 7 i dont care what tank it is hes ripen threw it like a hot nife thru butter gazza with 9 nobs 2 or 3 with pks the rest are extra wounds for ghazkull and a pain boy for you invunrable saves inside a truck then play a looted tank and a battle wagon 1 with boom gun other with kill kannon hell target everything hes got at that battle wagon becouse its scary and forget about hte little truk zooming across the field the list i used against a guard tank division was ....

troops 2 x30 slugaz had like 15 of each squad by the time i reached other side they still mullerd the 24 guards at the other side

looted wagon boom gun
10 burnaz in truck
forgot what else i used but gazz and the boys did the work his tanks were to close to geather to shoot at me with them being in a squadron for less points
he used 3 leman russes
2 short nosed leman russes forgot what they were called
1 tank that shot 5 ap 2 st 10 blasts
squads of 12 guard
i wiped him of the table
btw never fought a valkrie
