Welcome to Librarium Online!
I made a "small" shopping list for nids and somehow think they are pretty cheap (compared to my first choice of Inquisition & SM) and wondered if I forgot something important. At the moment it consists of ...
3x Tyranids Battleforce (Incl. 3 Fexes, max. Warriors and a lot of mandatory gaunts)
2x Hive Tyrant (maybe one winged from Forgeworld?)
1x Lictor, 1x Lictor Death Leaper (Regardless of fielding, a Lictor has to be at least in the shelves)
Some additional Termagants and Hormagaunts
Some (1 box of each) Spore Mines (Dunno if they are worth it in play)
1x Zoanthrope (same, but want at least one for shelf)
? Ravener(s) (dunno if they are worth it in game)
1 or 2 additional Carnifex (for Elite choice)
I like Tyrants, Fexes and Warriors, I also like the "swarm & overwhelm"-theme, so I want to have a lot of gaunts/stealers or whatever to go into close combat. I rather go assault with them, but like to have some ranged too (venon/strangler-fexes?) I'm somehow a little concerned about the Wings on the Tyrant. Are they really that good? Cause that much points seems a little "omg" for me. Also I don't know if it is worth forgoing all ranged attacks (from e.g. a barbed strangler) for a second CCW!?
What's with customization. Do we get ANY variety in the boxes or are every miniatures as its shown on the gw site?
Winged Hive tyrants are very good. Give them two pairs of scything talons and lots of close combat upgades or two twinlinked devourers to make them shooty. They need warpfiled to protect them because they are fire magnets. You can use the Balrog wings to convert on to have wings instead of coughing up for a Forge world one.Games Workshop They are the best wings and they look cool.
I think that three Carnifexes will be enough to start with. Try getting three Zoanthropes, they work best in groups. Spore mines are ok as cheap things to fill up fast attack but they aren't spectacular. A Ravener can be good but they are really expensive to buy in groups. You could try to convert some Tyranid warriors into Raveners if you want alot.
You don't really need to worry about customization when you buy a box of nids. They have most of the upgrades you can give them in the codex readily in the box for you.
Tyrants and Carnifex do lack a second set of twin linked 'shooty' weapons but that shouldn't be a problem as your shopping list shows that you'll have many of them.
Gaunts come with everything that you can give them in the codex.
Warriors come with everything but a second set of weapons for twin linked variants, wings, and also only have 1 set of oversized (in my opinion) rending claws.
Hive fleet Phantom- 6000 and growing still....
