Is this idea feasible from a gaming and fluff standpoint.
I love Warp Spiders and was thinking of making a complete army based on what their aspect shrine might look like. Not sure it's been done before but here are my thoughts;
Lhykosidae - not sure what he/she looks like but would count as an Autarch perhaps with a power weapon, death spinner, warp jump generator and maybe a banshee mask/mandiblasters.
Necron scarabs which count as Storm Guardians. These represent the 'tiny but aggressive creatures' that hunt and destroy invasive psychic entities (page 36 of the Codex). I would have to convert to undersling a gun on their bodies to represent a shuriken pistol.
Warp Spiders, lots of them
3 x Shadow Weaver support weapons
2 x Forgeworld Night Spinners (count as Fire Prisms)
On a quick count up, with 40 troops [4 squads of 10], 24 Warp Spiders + Autarch, heavy support etc, comes in at about 1474 points.
I am thinking of putting it together for this years GT and perhaps sneak into the finals by way of the army painting route. However, I also think that it's fairly competitive with a good troop base (basically hide in cover), decent tank killing and fast attack BUT fold up and die in close combat. That is the problem (but at least Storm Guardians are better at CC than regular guardians). But, it is more fluffy than power gaming
Now, what do people think?
Gotta say the idea appeals to me...I love Warp Spiders too

I’m not sure about the scarabs as the troops, might not be accepted by some people. I like the idea for fluff but gaming not sure, perhaps having with guardians as in guardian model with scarab but that’s just me and you don’t have to listen to my opinion . But I do like the fluff, fluffy armies are always nice.

The scarabs are my only concern, but to have Guardians would kill off all the fluff.
I see them rather like Tau gun drones etc. They would have the same base size as a Guardian, same model height (I would replace the flying stand thingy with something taller) put two on a base and make one head high for a Guardian and have a weapon mounted on them.
Now to my mind this makes them perfectly reasonable.
What do others feel?
And on a related note does anyone have any idea what Lhykosidae looks like?
Keep the thoughts coming in, I think it's viable so am off to place an order for some Night Spinner conversion kits (it helps living about 15 mins from GW in Nottingham).
You could use the small flying bases for your scarabs, the ones that come with the gun drones as you mentioned (you can get sets of them on the GW site if the one in Nottingham doesn't have them for some reason) just file the top till it's the same size. I think they could be made to look less like scarabs with something as simple as even a unique paint job to give the illusion of the scarabs existing in a sort of pseudo-warp state, almost as if teleporting out of the material world.
Heck, you could even give them cutom bases, resembling the wraithbone they travel to protect the Craftworld..
I think that the scarabs will need to go on standard 25mm troop bases as they will 'count as' troops.
However I really like the wraithbone idea, it would lend itself as you say to representing the Craftworld theme.
I think I will knock one up and post a picture for people to comment on.
Any more thoughts would be greatfully received.
I must say, I really love the idea (as I love Warp Spiders), but as has been said I'm not sure about the scarabs. A lot of opponents might not accept them.
On a side note, Lhykosidae doesn't use any of the trademark Warp Spider weaponry, he is known to use an unbreakable staff made of wood called Umbhala and a pair of Witchblades that he retrieved from someone called Khukulyn.
That's two in the camp saying they don't like the Scarab idea / don't think that players will 'allow' it. This puts a spanner in the works.
It just won't work with Guardians, they will easily outnumber the Warp Spiders, so it will lose that Warp Spider shrine feel.
Has anyone got any ideas of how to make this viable, rememberng it is a Warp Spider shrine?
The only thing I can think of is Rangers made outcasts who happened upon the Spiders. The problem now is that the troops, whilst low in number are not great at taking objectives where a mass of Scarab spiders would be.
Thanks for the comments at present and to the general thought that it would look good, I'm not giving up on the idea but I just don't know how to make it happen.
Might be a bit lame, but how about you use the Guardian Model, completely blacken it with paint and then paint the scarabs as if to imply that the Scarabs are taking a physical presence like the Guardians? That way nobody can complain that they aren't guardians and without colour they will not stand out at all, especially if you paint the Scarabs a brighter colour (which would be any colour that isn't black).
Someone might poo-poo this and say that Scarabs don't take the form of Guardians, but I would tell them to shush.
