Welcome to Librarium Online!
What do you want in the upcoming Necron Codex?
Another troops choice?
Or even just converting models to plastic...
This thread is for you so please post what you think should be in the next necron codex and why. And justify your claims.
And don't say "Oh, lets make the stats of the C'Tan 10,10,10..." and you get my drift, realistic wants m'kay
Lucky Hats- Is there anything they can't do?
More troops or HQ choices which let you count units as scoring because one troops choice is bad m'kay
I don't have a problem with one Troops choice. It's fitting and relevant. Necron Warriors are supposed to be the mainstay of our army and so they should be. However, I think making Flayed Ones scoring units would be nice. Perhaps do it like, Warriors (2+) and Flayed Ones (0-4), so that you have to have at least two squads of Warriors. I don't think that's unreasonable at all. I think our army list, except the now-near-useless Gauss rule, is reasonably balanced.
Anyway, my realistic wishlist:
- Add a couple of new upgrades or wargear. Something like 'Wraith' body upgrade would be nice. Model needs to justify it's circa 150-200pts cost.
- Perhaps an item of wargear that assists with Pariahs, making them at least usable?
- Plastic models please, otherwise okay.
- Something, anything, to make these playable. Even just a 5+ Inv. save would be nice. These should be able to go toe-to-toe with Terminators. If they can't, drop their points cost a little.
- Make them scoring. Move to 'Troops' but make 2+ Warrior units mandatory?
- Power Weapons would be too brutal. Rending would be nice. Increase max unit size to 5.
- Too expensive. Making their guns twin-linked would justify the cost.
Other than that, everything else to me is pretty much okay.
I think the biggest need, by far, is better anti-tank, especially now. The heavy destroyer is THE only weapon big enough to do real damage in a single shot. Making it twin-linked would be nice. They should remain expensive, as it shouldn't be TOO easy to get them into battle.
I'd also like to see more blast or template weapons. Hordes can be a real pain, and while the Monolith's pie plate of doom is nice, we could use more. At least ONE weapon. Maybe a variant shot ability on the heavy destroyers, or even the standard destroyers, offering a lower strength but large blast shot?
I don't agree with making other units troops per se. There are many other codices which only offer two troops choices, and they do just fine. What I would like to see is what's been hinted at for the new codex, meaning a collection of different lord types, which then make certain units eligible as troops choices (i.e., a cc lord which makes flayed ones count as troops, a run-and-gun lord that makes immortals count as troops, etc.)
Those are my biggest wishes.
Ravendove I like the "flayed one troops with 2+ warriors" idea.
Personally I think Pariahs are fine except for one thing. GIVE ME ANOTHER ATTACK! T5 3+ is rather durable, it's ok to have a unit we need to baby a little bit to get some really amazing attack output.
I feel the alternate lords would be nice, Wraithlord, DestroyerLord, maybe Tomblord for some MC HQ goodness. ANother thing I was considering, is for the "Low level" lords, work them in sort of the same way as imperial priests, I hate the idea of sergeant upgrades for Necrons, but having some meandering low-power independant characters would be nice for support, maybe drop 1A and 1W from the current lord, and rip out 80% of their wargear choices, then drop the thing down to about 50 points and make it not count towards HQ choices (thinking 0-4 choice on those)
A mini "transport" option. I've often figured a Deepstriking, immobile turret with a portal on it. Maybe 13 or 12 armor all around with living metal and an 18" teleportation range, then a 24" small blast barrage weapon (think pylons from Dawn of War)
drop Wraiths to S5 and give them power weapons, jump them to 50pts each and 2-5 squads.
WS/BS 5 on Lords!
Stubborn on all Necron units.
Not getting FNP on the army, but keeping WBB, i've spent too long figuring that Rule out for them to scrap it now!
I feel T6 on Heavy Destroyers would be nice as well, as they are our primary tank hunter they should be able to take hits like a tank (or closer to one at least).
Mostly agree with what Alzer had to say. Another fluffy rule that could be added is Hit and Run for the Wraiths, so they could do combat, and then phase thru a nearby building to the other side, hiding in cover and can then charge in again. It's a very situational power otherwise you're jsut leaving yourself open to ranged fire again, but still, sounds fluffy, heh. Also either power weapons or if it would keep the cost down: rending and Str 4 or 5, since I don't want to have to pay ginormous points for everything in my army, esp if the squad size is increased.
Heavies do need twin-linked or something. They're highly mobile lascannon skimmers... but still one shot is one shot that can miss and then you get popped. I argued elsewhere that Destroyers should get an extra toughness or an extra wound, since they are Immortals on a bike and all the other races with bikes get the initial unit's toughness +1, just like our Lord does as well.
I like the idea of Stubborn, since yes, we can "tactically withdraw" from a battle (which is why not every unit is fearless) but we're still not really scared or caring about losses that would make our leadership waver. A Lord still controls the warriors and is just telling them to reposition for another attack and he has full control. And WBB MUST stay. It's fluff stuffed in a fluff sandwich. FNP is just another saving roll, where WBB brings the dead back to fight again and really can break an enemies spirit. My Tau opponent still complains to this day about it and throws him off center.
I think giving Pariahs FNP would make sense, and giving wraiths larger squad sizes and rending (2-5) would really be great. But I really think that the idea of having Flayed Ones as troop choices doesn't work. They feel like commando units, but we could have them with the ability to hold objectives, so you still need to take 2 warrior squads, and you use up an elite choice. But I would really like to see more template weapons, like a squad upgrade for Pariahs, say a Gauss caster (identical to a flamer but with the Gauss rule), or a destroyer variant with the same weapon. But something that I thought of when I read the Ork's 'dex...
Molecular Bond Inhibitor Gun. (feel free to adjust the numbers)
Kinda like the Shokk Attack Gun, it would be an upgrade for a spyder (either it costs more or loses its ability to make scarabs) that you would roll a 2D6 after a hit. The gun is strength 8, AP 2 with a blast plate and rolls a D3 for scatter. If you roll a 1/1, a 2/2, a 5/5 or a 6/6 then you look to the chart.
1/1 the M BIG shorts out and kills the spyder
2/2 the M BIG becomes unstable, place a large blast template centered over the Spyder with S10 AP1
5/5 the M BIG is precisely on target, roll no scatter
6/6 the M BIG starts a chain reaction, roll no scatter and place a large blast template, every model in any unit is hit for S10 AP1.
I think it would be a fun gun...maybe a stupid idea though.
Sounds fun, but the Necron are the tecnological masters of this galaxy, they wouldn't short out or become unstable. But we need another weapon or two, nothing crazy. My gripe is in order to field a weapon we must field a new unit. We can't upgrade or have leader units in a squad to carry it. To get a Str 5 weapon we have to field Immortals (ignoring the Monolith one). But that's 10 more points, with a minimum spent, plus a second sqaud if we want to avoid being wiped with no WBB. That's way too much overhead to field 1 type of gun.
Oh, and I agree that Pariahs should FNP to make up for the lack of WBB, if they want to keep the fluff that they are hybrids and don't benefit from the necron stuff. If they are Necron 2.0 like they say, the next evolution, then they need to have staying power, or what's the point? Also like the idea of different Lord bodies for different roles or troop choices, just like Marines do. That way they can keep up with each unit type but still have that 2nd HQ slot for a walking Orb Lord.
The other crazy idea I had is sort of like a mini-lord like some had said, but just have an upgrade for the Spyders to carry an Orb as well. Really I don't see the benefit of them unless you're running a Flying Circus and have 1 unit jumping around and one in the back, so that they don't lose their WBB capability. Other than that, I'd never field one, because all my units would be traveling together. Otherwise they'd be used as MC wailing on units, but I haven't done that yet. For the points as is, I'd rather zip around the board with 36" cannons or zipping thru cover and into assaults with different units.
What if the tomb spyders got a template weapon. Sacrifices 1 melee attacks and lowers initiative but gets the gauss annihilator or the micro gauss flux arc(small template). which is mounted on its back. Also tanking this upgrade improves the balistic skill by 1 or 2.
Also another idea i had is Obolisk. Obolisk are deep striking turrets, which have a micro gauss flux and portal, which can transport anyunit to its location. 1 unit per turn. Obolisk come in squads of 2-5 and dont have to maintian unit coherency and would be a fast atteack choice. Each obolisk act indepedently and cannot be within 12 or 24 inches of each other.
As far as beign able to upgrade our units with diffrent weapons i think only tomb spyders and scarabs should get that option, as i like the way its set up.
Another thing they could do is make gauss a special glanceing hit weapon which adds +1 to determine damage so we can still destroy the tanks on a six.
Id also like to see this as a model. i am thinking of makeing one for appocolypes.
and yes im serious but maybe not so big.

Yeah, I figured the crazy cannon on TS wouldn't fit in, but I really wish we had another flame template weapon. I really, really want plastic wraiths and immortals. Seriously, Necrons need more plastic models. But imagine the possibilities of a Gauss caster on a jet bike. Or I like the idea of the spyder upgrade. What would be awesome is some kind of long range fire, like a Gauss Mortar.
