Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've started collecting my tyranid army this week, long story short i'm excited. i'm getting the battleforce for an easy 500 list to play friendly local games.
i've got money to expand but i'd like to know what builds for my guys would work best against experienced space marine players. they usually sit back behind cover and take pot shots. they make me come to them.
so i would love to get some help with builds that would throw they're game off. i want to be able to break they're ego haha.
thanks for the help in advance
This is one of those times where a Lictor may be useful. If your opponent is just sitting in cover, throw out a Lictor on his doorstep and just shout "Surprise!"
As far as your boxset goes, I'd almost certainly make your gaunts with fleshborers (once you get some more experience as nids, then i'd suggest spinegaunts for tactical reasons) and I'd make your warriors shooty. The prime setup for that seems to be 2xdeathspitters and one with barbed strangler, all with toxin sacs and scything talons.
If you're willing to invest in magnets, then magnet up your fex to the max, that way you can take advantage of all his different possible roles.
Do you have any idea how you want your nids to play? Is it just marines that your going to be facing?
Hope I helped somewhat, and welcome, WELCOME to the Hive Mind!

Break lines with outflanking genestealers. That will teach them to stay still. Always have at least 1 troop choice without number.
Good purchases in this order:
1. Hive Tyrant
As you expand you need good HQ and synapse. Battleforces are the best bargain for expanding troops.
for a 500 point game, I would give the gaunts fleshborers, the warriors two deathspitters and a barbed strangler, then the carnifex a venomcannon and a barbed strangler. From there you can give the other upgrades. Make sure the fex and the warriors have toxin sacs and enhanced senses. Don't give the gaunts Without Number by any means. That is the worst thing to give them until you get up to at least 1500 points. The reason I say this is because you are going to need synapse xcoverage everywhere for with out number. You can't provide that with three warriors. When your gaunts die they are going to sit back at your table edge alone because your warriors are up with you other gaunts. You can't cover them all. That is why you have to wait until higher points where you can afford more synapse. Also, give stealers extended carapace.
Once you want to expand I suggest a hive tyrant with wings, a few zoanthropes, and more carnifexes
Sorry about the rushed respose, but i have to go. If you have any questions send me a message please!
The Great Plague meets The Devourer of The Galaxy. What does that make us?
My list for 500pt game (using a battleforce+Tyrant)
1 Dakka Flyrant (2 Dev, +1BS, +1St, Wings, Flesh Hooks, Warp Field) [200pt]
This beast will take down every defense your opponent have, from troops squads to vehicles. The Flesh Hooks is mandatory, so he can use his high I for assaulting troops in cover.
16 Termagant [96pt]
you can split this in 2 squad of 8 termagant each if you prefer. Great for gave cover to other troops, take objective, and make the opponent feel that you have a swarm army!!
6 Genestealers with Feeder Tendrils or Flesh Hooks [102pt]
this guys will rip everything your opponent has, but cover them behind the termagant or they are dead meat. FT or FH depends on the table you are used to play.
3 Warriors (+1St, 3 ST, 2 DS, 1 BS) [98pt]
Your deadly shooting unit. Cover them behind the Termagants and assault the Rhino or the last 3 man squad remained on the table in the last turn of the game.
Always remember: Enjoy your meal!!!
thanks for the guys i liked the magnet idea but i'll jsut glue my 'fex together i like the secure =p and the people i play with aren't anal about if your model has this gear that's what you have to use.
and for my next pay check in two weeks i planned on getting two boxes of termagaunts, a tyrant, another box of warriors, another 'fex or two and maybe some lictors. so gimme ideas on what i can do with that haha XD.
also space marines aren't my only oppenents i also know someone who's getting orks, someone who has tau, and another with eldar (cheesy list haha). though they're all pretty new and have yet to play any games so i'm more worried about the two experienced space marines players.
s far as my tactics go i was thinking of playing larger units and a distraction that can take the hits til i can get my gaunts and stealers in there face. i was also going to keep my 'fex and warriors back as shooters also. if you want to see what i've got geared then message me i'll post it.
thanks again =D
I've quickly become a massive fan of barbed stranglers on fexes (my last game against orks, he never missed with his scatter until he aimed for his battlewagon and it scattered onto his lootas instead) so if you do glue your fex make sure he at least has that weapon.

One thing that I find catches marines off guard is when you build a list that is packed with shots. Best way to go about this is a Hive Tyrant with two twin-linked devourers, and then a Carnifex with the same to back him up. I find that marines will let this shoot 1-2 turns then realize how deadly it is and focus on it, which gives you're genestealers the opportunity they need to run up the board.
