Welcome to Librarium Online!
Okay, before I start, I haven't lost my mind. 'crons are still 'crons. But imagine if instead of just being able to field a C'Tan, we were able to alter the army's rules a bit to represent working for a particular C'Tan. Like if we were working for Nightbringer (loves to CC things and just slaughter in general) our CC units would get boosts (maybe Wraiths specifically, as they kind of remind me of N like power weapons or even phase blades or extra attacks. This would be balanced by paying extra, just making the boosts upgrades or penalizing other things, like only allowing units with the Necron rule, or not allowing certain units. And you could have the option of playing 'crons the same way they've always been played. This patronage thing would only work with one C'Tan, so you can't get boosts from both Void Dragon and Deceiver in one game. But any ideas? Am I being stupid? I'm thinking that the C'Tan would sorta work as follows
Deceiver: fear-based abilities boosted, flayed-ones and pariahs get boosts (didn't Deceiver plant the Pariah gene anyway? and aren't there rumors that the assassin temple and other large parts of the Imperium are under his control?)
Nightbringer: Wraiths and Immortals get boosts (both are elite heavy combat units, wraiths are more of what I think of when I see N
Void Dragon: 'cron machines get boosts, specifically scarabs, Tomb spyders and monoliths.
Outsider: No idea, I know nothing about that guy.
So please give me some feed back (feel free to say it's a dumb idea) or your own ideas.
Dark Lord of the 'Crons
I really like the idea. However, the outsider would be a bit tricky. Based on his current fluff, I came up with this:
Outsider- All tyranid units must avoid your army.
If they publish more fluff, this concept would be, in my opinion, phenomenal.
Or how about the dragon, all Mechanius humans from Mars give up their humanity and change sides to your army....
"There is only do, or do not. There is no try." - Yoda
If GW carries on with the army-style by special Character I could definitely see the C'tan Aspects do something like that (I'm still iffy on the C'tan themselves being on the field).
I agree with the Nightbringer and Deceiver abilities. Though Personally I feel that they both have a very heavy fear aspect (NB IS Death after all).
I could see the Deceiver giving some neat trickery or mind-control abilities. Maybe giving illusory cover to all units within a certain radius.
Void Dragon? Anti machine... all units in the army have tank hunter.
Outsider I always figured for some insanity powers. Maybe something that messes with psychic abilities, deepstrike. Powers that just screw with the other guy instead of buffing ours.
Ol' LobsterClaw and Dark Trainer,
I love the idea! We can pretty much Nerf the Imperium and 'nids!
I really think the C'Tan should be moved to Apocalypse and we should get more lord variants, I'd love to see a wraith lord and immortal lord personally, with the wraith lord getting phase claws (like lightning claws with the warscythe properties) and the immortal lord getting a warscythe with a gauss blaster attached (like the Pariahs). It would be cool if NB-themed gave every unit terriying visage and Deciever granted WBB rerolls or boosts in fear-based abilities (make them act as cover saves too or allow rerolls)
Dark Lord of the 'Crons
I'm only for removing the C'tan from 40 (vanilla, and moving them to the specialist versions) if we get more lords with more powerful options. I like X-Lord ideas I've heard else where and Sithcron's ideas, like the Immortal one with a Gauss Blaster upgrade to be more shooty, or the Wraith with scythe-claws, etc. If not, I think we need the C'tan or it's unbalanced that armies like Daemons HQs with stuff like 6 wounds and other armies that have stuff with WS 8 units, etc.
I don't know about how I feel about "tiered" lords, but maybe some new fluffy ranks with new names that are beginning to awaken. Basically the green wave of death isn't in full swing and this will just be the next wave in the building warmachine of the C'tan. These new units can take over for the two C'tan that are up and they move on to bigger, better things (other 40k games). I also like the idea because that means the Necron armies aren't going to be defeated any time soon. I just read from time to time posts about "who would win the 40k universe" and they say the C'tan don't have any staying power vs the Nids or Chaos. If we haven't even seen everything they can do... that would put em in their place. ;-)
Sorry if this has been explored before or is against the rules, but I found more Necron info that isn't part of vanilla 40k rules that maybe could be built on for us in the next codex:
These are from the Apocalypse: Reload book, but sounds like something we could make use of (the named Lords). Maybe just make up a few more of these titles and bump the stats of named Lords over just the current "Lord". Here's to hoping...
- Doomsday Phalanx - Super-heavy Monolith that can network with normal 'liths for more power
- Resurrection War Cell - "Harbinger of Awakening" Lord uses Immortals as bodyguard, awakens Scarabs and Spyders to work overtime bringing Warriors online (maybe augment WBB or WoN special rule).
- Stormcaller War Cell - "Harbinger of the Storm" Lord uses Wraiths as bodyguards, disrupts enemy deep strike, and has anti-tank wargear.
To Haunters post,
I think the idea of ranked lords could work, each rank would have better base stats and access to more wargear or body styles. I think an wargear upgrade that could give additional wounds, and some Necron Gatekeepers, (immortal variant with a Gauss Caster, a flamer with the Gauss rule)
Dark Lord of the 'Crons
from the imperial armory there is
undying legion: 3-6necron warrior squads+plyon, plylon = res orb with unlimited range
gauss pylon network: 2-5 plyons, project special feilds on the battlefield which effect shooting and wbb!
hope that doesent break the rule either he just missed some.

Don't mess up our fluff GW!
i'd be all for them giving your army a bonus
right now they're so damn expensive it would be nice if their infuence covered the entire battlefield
