So I'm going to be building some Necron bastions for Planetstrike, and I was wondering if it would be a fair trade-off to give the bastions the living metal rules, but have no mounted guns. I'm afraid that if the bastions were living metal and had necrony heavy bolters they would be too cheesy.
That's up to you and your opponent
Yeah, all things like this are just "talk to your opponent" but I personally think that would make them very very powerful, and would take a lot of work to balance out. The best way that I can think of, is making each 'lith bastion worth two normal bastions (for purposes of how many firestrikes before the game, and points for capturing them, or whatnot. No guns might work too, but I always thought that the automatic guns wern't that good, but I haven't played one myself.
My own personal idea for a Necron Bastion is ungarrisonable, but with Gauss Flux Arc style guns. And no Living Metal, because lets face it, 14/14/14/Immue to anti-tank weapons isn't fair at all when you can take as many as you make.
If you put living metal on it I would down the armour to maybe 13 and mount the bastion with gauss blasters instead of heavy bolterrs.
My reasoning behind the armour change, is that most planet strike armies I've seen for attackers rely somewhat on melta weapons to pop open bastions, tau fusion blasters, generic melta for all of the imperium, and fire dragons for eldar. I just doon't think taking that melta rule without giving them some other way of those units penetrating you would be very fair.l Besides with the downgrade in armour you can still get the necrons answer to the heavy bolter without being overly cheesy, so pop some gauss blasters on there but still remember to talk it over with your opponent.
Ask me about the Black and White Space Marine on the Black and White Bike!!!
Also being unable to DESTROY it via glancing would suck. So make sure something is in there rendering it fair.

Maybe have the whole 14/14/14/LM/gun bastion but have it give the enemy one or two of the special points. I can see that working to help balance them out, as some of those assets are quite powerful. Then maybe have just a downgraded version that is 14/14/14/LM and no gun. This seems like it could be reasonable.
Well...giving it LM, Gauss Blasters and a Heavy Gauss Cannon, wouldn't really break it. It looses out in range and firepower for heavier armor. Also with gauss blasters, it could be destroyed by glancing, unlike the monolith. Also, meltaguns can still kill monoliths, go go AP1. Also the HGC and the GBlaster aren't any different than the Heavy bolter and lascannon other than range, number of shots, and gauss.
Maybe, you might do just as good with (a lot of) monoliths?
I've just read rumors, but it would quite fit with the fluff...
