So like the title states i have never realy played 40k i mostly just paint models that i think look cool. But i have alwase wanted to start and have some necrons already so i figure that is a good army to start. What i have consists of 2 sets of 10 warriors and a lord. i was thinking i want to try for a 1500 point army to play with at a local store. i know a little about necrons from what i have read on LO and DakaDaka but dont realy know what else to get to fill my army out and why to take the choices. Most of the necron lists i have seen say to take 3 sets of 10 warriors some destroyers most of the time 2 lords with different war gear and so on. I guess this is a good spot to say that im looking for a list that is more shooty then CC, necrons just dont seem to be that good at CC from what i have read (i may be wrong, again never played) So any help i can get would be great plus any kind of strat for the choice suggestions would be a great help too. Thanks in advance
your best bet is a necron phalanx box set. that gives u a lord, 48 warriors,12 scarabs, 6 destroyers and a monolith for 160$ thats the best necron set for your buck and has no bad units, thats roughly 1500pts too. I also recomend the destoryer lord box. thoose two things will give u all u need for 1500-2000 and with the extra warriors you can convert them to immortals useing the guide below. thats my two cents hope it helps.
however if u dont wanna convert warriors to immortals just buy some bout 6-8 is a good starting number.
Don't mess up our fluff GW!
For shooty Crons stick to Warriors, Immortals, and Destroyers. Here's a quick 1500 point list:
Necron Lord: Veil of Darkness, Solar Pulse
40 Necron Warriors

Normally, the best thing to do when starting is to buy the battleforce (for Crons), which gives you a solid base of troops. The Phalanx IS better (at least if you want to go warrior heavy), from a models-for-money point of view, but its difficult to get (afaik, theyre not sold by GW anymore). As you do have your 20 warriors and lord though, itd be overkill.
68 warriors? No, thank you.
And you also wouldnt need the oodles of scarabs that come with the phalanx.
So, what to do? Depending on your conversion skills, Id take the smaller battle force, use 10 of the warriors as normal (imo, 30 is the ideal number of warriors), and convert the other 14 to 18 (it depends on the battleforce... for some reason, they both cost the same...) warriors into immortals, using moc065s tutorial as posted by ekalbs (used it myself, no modelling experience what-so-ever, came out great), and keep the remaining gunless warriors in case you get bored and want to add some flayed ones (or otherwise convert...WBB markers, anyone?). The scarabs are useful if youve got some points and FA slots over (youll still need some destroyers), equipped with D-fields theyre quite good at tankbusting, and the get a 2+ coversave from turboboosting.
As to tactics: Theres LOADS of them.
Flying Circus: Lord with VoD, immortals, DS somewhere behind the enemy and unleash gauss hell.
Bugzapper: Destroyer Lord with Lightning Fied, 10 scarabs, attach lord to scarabs, attack someone (power fists and initiative 1 preferred) and giggle with glee as potenially 73 attacks produce some massive overkill, tough at the cost of the unit...
I think Ill leave it at that for the time being, my fingers are killing me...

Ok sounds pretty good to me, so i went over your guys lists and made one of my own so far but it is still lacking maybe you can help me add a little more to round it out to 1500
HQ Lord-VoD-Res Orb -- 200
NW 3x10 -- 540
Immortals x10 -- 280
Destroyers 2x3 --300
Thats what i got so far but i still have 380 points to left i guess i can add more destroyers to the squads to fill it out but i wanted to get some opinions what else i can add to the list to make it better. Thanks for your guys help.
Welcome to the Necrons!
Be sure to check out the stickied guides, as they'll offer you a lot of good advice.
Your list is pretty good. You'll have fun with that. You might consider a Monolith. It offers a lot of support and acts as a nice fire magnet. Plus, if you keep your force together (a must with the Necrons!) you'll find the 'lith's teleport ability will help keep your metal men alive.
I was thinking maybe a lith in there too but i dident know if it was a good investment for 1500 pt. Plus i dont have the exact pt cost at the moment cause i dont have my codex handy. I dident want to spend the money on one if it would be more practicle to take more destroyers in its place. The real money cost of it isnt a problem i just dont want to get something that will be less then optimal, but a lith did look good to me. what you think.
Let's just say it's over 230 but less than 240 of non necron (phase out) glory.
If I get retribution from the admin's, sorry.

still dosent realy answer the question though of if it is worth the more than 230 less than 240 of non necron goodness it seems to be though so i most likely will take one.
