Just some n00b questions I need to figure out:
Can I shoot under my devilfish?
In 5th edition how does the kroot fieldcraft work for shooting out of jungle area terrain?
Can I join my commander up with tank drones then join another unit?
How do target locks work with drone-controller-drones?
How do drones give cover to another unit (considering their size, height and 'true' LOS)?
Do stealth teams still count as being in cover when assaulted?
Can I disembark my pathfinders on the scout move?
What is the best way to use Airbursting fragmentation projector?
How many markerlights should be necessary?
What's the best way to kill the god damn bloodthirster and similar units?
wow alright well first off these arent noob questions and r asked pretty frequently in my experiance. the answer to ur question are:
this is my take on it, however alot of these questions would be based on ur tactics. either way hopes this helps and FOR THE GREATER GOOD!!!!
- yes but there is a 4+ cover save on it.
- it does pretty much nothing now.
- i dont think u can, but ive never really encountered that problem
- i really dont know
- not sure, its just a loop-hole in the system.
- yes, they still have that effect
- i doubt it.
- mostly on a suit who is expendable (or as expendable as they can get) however it can be used on ur HQ choices when ur enemy is trying to use cover to get close such as tyranids, or IG.
- usually it depends on the siz of the army, though one 8 man squad of pathfinders usually does the job for me.
- Railgns, ion cannons (being able to decently wound and AP them), and most AP 2 weapons in the armory.
There are three kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who cannot.
Knowing little about tau myself I cannot help you on most of those questions BUT being an experienced daemons player I can help with the thirster.
Using AP weapons as suggested above can work, but there's better targets for them (grinders, plaguebearers, Great unclean ones)
If you want to take a thirster down you'd be best of doing it with a lot of fire warrior shooting.
You're wounding him on 5's and his armour save is only one better than his inv save. So if you can hold him up with some kroot have some smaller arms fire ready to fire at him. He's not THAT tough.
On the commander join tank drones and another unit im sorry to say you cant because he would be join 2 units which is not legal.
On the ABFP pay the extra 10 points for the shas'vre give him TLF, ABFP, HWTL, HWMT. Also if you make it a full unit you would give the other 2 suits TLF, DC, and at least 1 GD each. Then deep strike them with the abilty to cause lots of wounds its a unit can easly earn it points back.
The only problem I have with the stealth thing is arguing the point especially because in 5th the whole initiative = 1 thing only happens when the opponent has to roll a difficult terrain test.
So technically I could put a larger clear rod on the base to make my devilfish 'float' higher and remove the save? I don't care about cover for me, I just want to block assaults by exploiting the 1" rule.
That sucks, I thought that this rule would carry over before the stealth rule. Does this mean that I have to be only 2" in for a clean shot?
I like pathfinders but I hate how vulnerable/immobile they are, I find it interesting that no-one ever includes the markerlight upgrade for the stealth leader. I've used a Shase'l with two marker-drones to good effect, it helps to join this unit up to tank drones to sponge wounds.
Most people I play have a WSIWYG mentality, so it's very hard to argue that two puny drones are giving cover to the majority of a squad. Also about the commander; in his entry it says 'if accompanied by drones he may still join other units as an independant character' I know this is probably referring to DC drones but I'm all for exploiting the grey areas.
*Edit* Forgot to add that I'm pretty sure the enemy attempting to assault will have to take a dangerous terrain test also.
