Me and my friend were talking about lists that we never see and I suggested that nobody has ever successfully played an Adeptus Mechanicus list due to there being no good (legal) codex for them. So I suggested the Dark Eldar codex. I have looked it over and It seems to be the best for the job. All the flying things can be mechanicus experiments, the warriors are pretty good stats to represent skitarii and what really did it for me was the talos. It just fits AM so well. Any ideas on if people would let me play this? The guys at my LGS are pretty lenient on counts as lists and are even more easy-going when they deal with good conversions and what i'm thinking about would probably turn out to be pretty cool. So has anyone ever done a DE counts as?
(I'm not sure if this should go here but there's no AM subforum if it's wrong then a mod can move it.)
Since (as you say) there is no Mechanicus Codex you can’t aim to be like it, so you will have to post your ideas in the thread for anyone to decide on it.
But I honestly don’t see the DE rules being good for a Mechanicus Army.
Try combining Servitors from the Marine Codex, Arcoflaggelants from Witch Hunters and sprinkle with some Forge world Imperial vehicle rules for a better mix.
Also look at the battle fleet gothic game as there is a Mechanicus Fleet in there I believe.
Good luck and if there ever was a Dark Mechanicus Codex come out I would probably give up my DE in preference for them!

In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for the truth, and have begun striving for ourselves.
Actually I'm with Wicky on this one. I don't see the Mechanicus as being the ridiculously fast glass cannon that Dark Eldar is.
I believe there is some talk of this on the modelling forum, but I know that many use Witch Hunters and even Necrons as a Mechanicus stand-in.
Thematically, the Necrons are a much better fit than even the Witch Hunters. Certainly better than DE.

May I join to the discussion or after a couple of days it does count as nekropost?
Realy does not matter.
What popped up in my mind that how can a wytch fit in the picture? talos, ok, I can take it. Hellions? Combat drugs? No, no, no! No units are able to repair anything in a DE list.
I got to agree with Wicky and Darkspawn: DE certainly not a good idea for a mechanicus army.
