Hello again servants of the Star Gods!
This week will continue our Lord Series. This time with Assault Lords (I.E. destroyer lords).
Yet another powerful unit, Assault Lords are found in the vanguard of a Necron force. Their presence is much more palpable on the front lines wreaking havoc before the press of warriors comes to bear. With their carapaced destroyer bodies hurling them over terrain and into tanks and squads of infantry to let lose with Staff or Scythe, they can be a brutal leader.
So, for Destroyer Lords, how do folks use them. Bug-Zapper and Wraith-Lords are definitely popular, and effective. how many use those? And what other ways have you used Destroyer Lords to your advantage? What successes have you had? And what losses have you suffered?
For small games (500 pts) the destroyer lord with a warschyte is just about as fun as i've ever had.
And that guy has most often given his points back. Maybe exept for the wraithlord that charged alone into 50 guardsmen with a commisar armed with powersword. They fought against each other the whole game. In the very same game, 40 conscripts shot and killed 6 wraiths and a tombspyder
But my Destroyer lord always goes for the least squishy target he can reach. It can sometimes block line of sight, letting my warriors advance into a better position. (It has stopped le man russ from firing )
When my destroyer lord dies, it's most often against that powersworded commisar, but the commisar doesn't survive either
I almost always equip my foot Lord with a Warscythe. It's only a few pts and really helps when your opponent brings TH/SS Terminators or assault vehicles like Dreadnoughts to the game. Thinking your Warriors with Lord are a safe bet, the look on their face when you mince through Terminators like butter is priceless.
Every so often when I'm not in the mood to use my support/circus lord, i throw down a Destroyer lord (generally a full out wraithlord). Tends to do pretty well as a counter charging unit, the S5 T6 can put it through many opponents, rending and powerfists are the biggest problems. Or Grey Knights...
Generally I keep my Lord close to my warriors so the Destroyer stays home even if It could be rampaging across the table with wraiths or scarabs.
Recently I've been trying a res-orb gaze lord in a unit of Flayed ones as a front line combat unit, it's performing alright.
a fear lord also falls into this category as well as a support
i usually use him with pariahs to make ld7 checks
made a greater demon run away once
There is no "I" in "team", there is an "I" in "pie" however, as in "Meat Pie" with "Meat" being an anogram of "Team".
You can lower his Ld, but he's still Fearless
This one time, I was using the Wraith Lord, and he managed to destroy (explode) two vehicles and he was wounded both times by the explosion! (yup, he was wounded...on a 6...and failed his save...both times...)
Necrons W0/D0/L0 Dwarfs W10/D2/L6 (8th edition)
but lucky me, i got back up. and since he did not move, my next 3 attacks auto hit his land raider. he was like wtf! you cant do that! your less than an inch away!
i read him the rules about what happens if the opponet is less than an inch away, and he was like... BULL!
the landraider ended up exploding!...and then it wounded the lord........and then he failed his save...........and he went down.................and next turn, he failed his WBB......... V_V it was a sad day..................................BUT BOY DID THAT LORD PAY FOR HIMSELF! xD
im always careful with my lord, the bad ting about puttin the lord with anything is that he will usually lose some toughness because of the majority T rule.....
