I am a very experienced Ork Commander with many local tourneys under my belt yet even after a year of 5th I have found no real use for regular warbikers (not Nob warbikers). Maybe it’s my inclination towards Horde/Shooty lists that does it but every time I have fielded them I have generally regretted doing it. They were not necessarily bad performers but compared other units they seem largely ineffective and I keep wishing I had dropped them and spent the points elsewhere. They are even making the flash gits in my super soft list look deadly by comparison. I was wondering what tactics work with them and if anyone actually likes them. As far as I am concerned if I want a biker mob I go with Nob Warbikers every time over their weaker kin.
My main reservations:
Leadership Issues due to relatively small size, they just do not tend to stick around
Cost, despite there nifty guns, high speed and 4+ cover saves they don't seem to merit there 25pt cost. When you think they are worth the same as 4 regular boyz, a Nob, 2.5 Kommandos and nearly 2 lootas you begin to wander if they haven’t been over pointed
Lack of Frags. While you can argue that their speed allows them to pick targets that aren't in cover, a lot of the targets you really want to attack are sure to be in it. Striking last isn't really where you want to be when you lack the ablative wounds od a large mob except when your enemy in question are tau firewarriors or other similarly useless CC units

Key things for an Ork to remember in the heat of battle:
Always remember to pillage BEFORE you burn
When the pin is pulled, Mr. Stickbomb is not our friend
When in doubt empty the magazine.
And most importantly AIM towards the Enemy.
I agree with you. My warbikes are definitely weak. The only thing they are good at is making a suicide run with a PK nob, but they die very fast. I can take out a Landraider this way (50/50 chance) - one of the banes of Orks - but otherwise they are not too good.
I find that warbikes work best in speed freaks units as expendable suicide squads. I like to run them relatively cheaply (5-6 with a nob, powerklaw and bosspole for 165 points) and supercharge them towards something you want to die, or at least get tied up. The bikes almost certainly won't survive the battle, but I've had a lot of success tying things up or killing command units.
Warbikes also get a lot more versatile and effective if a warboss on a bike is attached. I find that groups of nobz (of all kinds) are more than powerful enough on their own without a warboss attached. Instead, I like giving the warboss in the list (he's still included to make the nobz a troop choice) a bike, powerklaw, cybork, and a combi-skorcha, and then attach him to a regular unit of 5 warbikers with a nob, powerklaw and bosspole. This is a powerful, versatile, and effective unit.
It's true, the warbikers are not as cost effective as regular slugga boyz in a trukk, but they have one distinct advantage: they can't lose their bikes. Slugga boyz can lose their trukk and be stranded out in the middle of nowhere, but bikes will keep their speed until they die. I would've use a whole list of them, but I like using a single unit of warbikes in my speed freaks lists.

Bikers are initiative 1 if they take a difficult terrain test while assaulting. Sucks, I know.
Oops! Sorry, I was thinking of Nob bikers, who come with frag grenades.
Cossack is right, since regular warbikers don't have frag grenades, they attack at initiative 1. Of course, the best way around that is to attach a warboss with a combi-skorcha. Yeah, your attacks are still at init 1, but you get to roast your enemies alive first, ignoring the cover during the shooting phase, making sure they're aren't many left to attack you in the assault.
Of course, the combi-skorcha won't be as effective against Marines, but Marines are initiative 4, so your warbikers would be attacking after them in any case.
I like your Warboss biker, Cossack. Can I ask what you did for his base? It looks good, but looks like something something simple enough I could do it....
I'm a fan of warbikers. I used two units in an apoc game and they were great- I used them to skirt around the slower infantry units and chew them up with their gunz, eventually charging in and tearing things up with the PK. I'm a big fan of their mobility too, and they're pretty hard to kill with a 4+ inv. save and T5.
Use them to charge into units that suck at cc, harass units with their gunz, screen your boyz, or zoom in to support combats.
Truk boyz may be better for charging in on a suicide PK delivery, but bikers are much more survivable and vesratile.
