With the changes in the 5th edition, is a blacksun filter still useful?
1/3 of all standard games are Dawn of War. (Which I personally detest. Dawn of War really hoses any shooty army, like Tau for instance.) So if you have the points to spare, they can definitely be worth it, especially on your anti-armour choices.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

They are my go-to if I have spare points at the end of an army list and can't think of anything. Also remember that if you're facing special scenarios (like, for example, match #2 in Round 2 of 'Ard Boyz this year), their value can skyrocket.
I fight for the Greater Good. Too bad for you it's MY Greater Good.
Snow Forces of T'olku W/L/D : 3-4-2... I like to think I'm learning, though.
BSF definitely has a place in 5th. I always use one on my Skyray because if the test is passed and the SR's two ML's hit then the tokens can be used to negate the night fight effect for two units. I use the tokens to negate the night fight effect on my two Hammerheads. It is handy because it effectively negates night fight for two or three units.
They are not a necessity when compared to things like disruptions but if the points are available then they are worth taking.
Also the Dawn Assault Stratigem in planet strike. You can have some real fun with it.
Thanks all for your replies.
ive found they come in handy, but i rarely have spare points in my lists. They're usually pretty cemented.

There are three kinds of people in this world, those who can count and those who cannot.
I might take them if they were 1pt per model, but even then it's unlikely .
My gaming group's new motto: That army you're using is overpowered because it hurts my guys, codex is broken and needs a rewrite.
Would a BSF on a torch suit, with a MP, be viable?
I would fire the MP only if 1) until I got into range with my TL flamers and 2) when I really need that anti-troop carrier shot.
