Welcome to Librarium Online!
As i said, i am an eldar player, but i wanted to choose another cool army for seconds, while still building up my eldar, i was wondering what lists and tactics are out there for nids, and what playing experiances you guys have. I know of a person who collects nids, and he has told me about the points cost of things like guants, but with new codex rumours i am unsure whether the points cost will stay the same. the armies that i will be playing against, will mainly be SM, IG, Tau, CSM, Orks and my Eldar. Only just starting to think about nids, i keep seeing units like godfexes, and dakkafexes, could anyone kindly explain what these are(i know theryre carnifexes). the reason i chose nids is because i like cc and i like upgrades and lots of monsters killing stuff.
Haha, I am an Eldar player that just started playing nids. I've only played one game with them (I ran a Genestealer-based list), but my record is already better than with mech eldar. ^_^ I have only played one game with each, but in my mech eldar game I lost and in my nid game I tied. Anyways, I wish I could help you with the nicknames for carnifex builds, but I need just as much help as you do to be honest...
I believe there is a thread about it though in the list of sticky threads at the top of the forums.
Dakkafexes are fexes with 2 twin linked devourers and enhanced senses, which fit neatly in the elites slot. God/Uber fexes are CC fexes with lots of CC upgrades. Sniperfexes are fexes with a venom cannon and barbed strangler (for tank hunting...note tyranid long range tank hunting generally means shaking vehicles. We usually can only destroy vehicles in CC with our monstrous creatures). Hope that helps and welcome to the Hive!!
ok, thanks guys, for the referenaces, i would also like to know about the different types of army before i decide which type to go down, i know about swarms, and heavy armys, but are there any others? i like the idea of swarms after palying eldar, butare they efefctive, and what units would i need.
To be honest, the only effective army list right now is NidZilla. Otherwise, I have run about three 'competitive' archetypes:
NidZilla is basically taking as many monstrous creatures as you can. Two Hive Tyrants (One Winged) and many Carnifexes. Take at least two Elite Carnifexes. The strength of this build relies on the fact that if your multiwound monstrous creatures are wounded, they still operate at maximum efficiency. Mechanized lists are your enemy,
Genestealer "Shock" or Genestealer Swarm relies on taking tons of Genestealers. Outflank with Genestealers, infiltrate if you want to. Advisably, take several monstrous creatures. Best part is, you can take out armor and swarms rather well. Templates are your enemy.
The "Psychic Choir" consists of taking two Hive Tyrants and three Zoanthropes with Psychic Scream. Throw barbed strangler shots all over the board with Warriors and Carnifexes and you are going to pin a lot of non-fearless units. The templates work decently against Orks where the pinning works well against even Marines. -4 and -5 to Ld is brutal. Armor is your enemy.
The standard Gaunt Swarm is sub-par because of the new assault rules. You will not 'win' close combat with gaunts. You will end up taking fearless wounds in return and have to save with the Gaunt's 6+ armor. Terrible. Not only that, but if you happen to have a Carnifex or some other biggie in assault with the Gaunts, the enemy could direct all attacks on the Gaunts and BOTH your gaunts and the Carnifex will end up having to take 4+ fearless wounds.
but if nids get a new dex, will this change??
No way to tell until said new codex was released. I would like to think that GW would make some revisions that would allow 'Nids to be effective with the type of army that is supported by the fluff(an unending swarm), but there are no guarantees.
i always imagined nids to be better with swarmyness, thats the idea i get from the fluff.
right. i know the tyranids have no tanks, but is it possible to convert, say a land raider, into a tyranid controlled, half organic half machine type thing,
As cool as it would be, there are no rules to support such a thing, and actually it seems more like something Chaos would do rather than 'Nids. There is probably a decent chance of 'Nids getting some type of vehicle when the codex is eventually updated, but I have no clue what it would be. Probably some type of fully organic being though, since everything 'Nids use is fully organic(they must be very healthy!).
