In the codex it says the farseer comes with a witchblade and pistol and the option to upgrade it to a singing spear.
The GW Farseer models come with either staves or spears. Is the staff just an "understood" witchblade?
The farseer model I own is holding a staff + pistol, I was wondering if this was just the base 55 pt unit (before choosing psychic powers)?
im assuming the "staff" doesnt have a spear head?
under the entry for that model on the GW website it lists
War Gear:Ghosthelm, shuriken pistol, witchblade, rune armour
but, my gfs farseer has 2 swords and it lists the same wargear
i owned this model too before i messed up the paint job and ruined it trying to strip the paint off lol, and i wondered the same thing, In my personal opinion due to the WYSIWYG ruling the most logical answer, especially in tournament conditions is that the staff doubles as a singing spear as if you look at the very end is ends with a point, so could be classed as a spear, but that means you have to pay for the upgrade, only 3 points and it is a bargin.
However 99% of players who are genuine 'have a good time' 40k gamers will let you play letting you use the witchblade because there is neither weapon showing, so then you would use it using base cost.
Just my 2 pennies
These are my blue dice, There are many more like them, But these ones are mine.
I'm pretty sure WYSIWYG is only taken into account for upgrades taken on the given model, i.e. if it doesn't have a Singing Spear on it, it is assumed to have the Witchblade, as that's the default weapon.
It is neither. THe model does not have either weapon on it. Since the model is an official GW model, I would say you can choose either. If anyone has a problem with it, just tel them this is a IN PRINT GW model. Then tell them to deal with it, cause you gotta live with it.
Eldar -APOC- 6500 Points
Chaos Daemons -Fate Crusher- 3500 Points
Grey knights - 1000 Points
That sounds good.
Out of curiosity, there isn't a witchblade farseer model in production, is there?
Only Variants holding the singing spear + pistol, or staff plus pistol...
There are indeed a couple of Farseers with the Witchblade. Two of them are from the "Eldar Seer Council" boxed set from GW Direct Order, which is $45 US and comes with two Farseers and 3 Warlocks. The second is from the "Eldar Farseer and Warlock Bodyguard" boxed set for $30 US which comes with a Farseer wielding a Witchblade and dagger, and 3 Warlocks.
Similiar situation, I take my marines(Dark Angels), and because their wargear says "boltgun, Bolt Pistol" If I want to assault, I fire my Bolt Pistols, The Wargear says boltpistol, but it is not present on the model. All base equipment is assumed to be present on the model, wether shown or not, WYSIWYG on applies to upgrade like giving my farserr singing spear, You can assume his witch blade is in its holster under the cloak, I have the same Farseer(Im guessing, The one with the staff and in a shooting pose with his pistol.)
When faced by an army of awesomness, RUN.
Adding Rep is always nice for everyone!
Yeah, I would assume he has a witchblade. The farseer I have is the one with 2 witchblades (and no pistol visible). Obviously you can't actually take 2 witchblades, just as you can not take a staff, so just assume it has the base equipment.
By the way, does anyone know if Eldrad's staff counts as a one-handed or a two-handed weapon in close combat? I don't believe it says either way in his codex entry.
I actually use a farseer with a spear, as a witchblade.. because blade is not necessarily a sword, it is a ceremonial weapon that may take, in my opinion, many forms, from a dagger to a staff.
It actually states:
"The singing spear is a psychically charged weapon similar to the witchblade but it can also be thrown at opponents..." (Eldar codex, p27)
