i am also new, but have got nothing for nids yet, what i will say is, my mate is also going to collect tau, and they suck in assualt. what would help experianced players would be a list your ysing
Well to help you, it would really help to know what you have for models so far.
Tau are definitely weak to close combat, so rushing them with hormagaunts is a reasonably effective choice. As would outflanking or scouted genestealers. Winged melee tyrant, basically anything that can hit their lines turn 2 no problem.
They also have low leadership, making them susceptible to barbed strangler pinning, this might really help you along to getting into combat by keeping them from shooting your gaunts and stealers apart.
Carnifex will need an extra wound, and extra toughness wouldn't hurt either. Tau can dish out some right up mean high strength shooting, and they will hit your fexes early on.
A Lictor might not be bad for jumping their crisis suits and ripping those apart, the things can be a real pain in the neck to track down sometimes.
Basicaly i have a battle force and a brood of warriors. i could buy any box under normal box set but im not shore what to pick would be nice if you could help, thanks.
I think that a Hive Tyrant would be my biggest priority after a battle force. A winged melee tyrant would be great for tearing Tau to pieces. Would use the carnifex in the battle force as a sniperfex to force pinning tests with the barbed strangler.
and if you wanted to have a plastic tyrant instead of the metal one you could use some green stuff and convert a carnifex. Thats my plan.
Also because Tau are so weak at close combat but so good at shooting you need to get to him quickly. So Hormagaunts, scouting stealers, and winged units are imortant. Also if you want to add wings but can't really find 'em you can use the translucent plastic plates and cut them into true bug wings like a dragonflies and etc.
