Welcome to Librarium Online!
I origonally was set on the idea that I would have a Mega-Warboss, it seemed good enough, Pk Twin-linked shoota, Bosspole, 3 Meganob buddies all rolling around in a Battlewagon with a Deffrolla, but now. . . I decided to add some warbikers into my army list, then thought that a Biker Nob squad would be cool and now I'm thinking about a Warboss Biker with PK, Bosspole, and of course, a Warbike.
Warbike is better if you have ALL fast units, otherwise they are to easy to pick off. Mega Warbosses are good if you other armor to protect the Wagons sides, where it's armor is much lower.
Biker Bosses are also better at opening armor in my opinion because of the speed.
It also comes down to who the boss is for. If you're planning on running nob bikers, I actually wouldn't put the warboss with them, as it's overkill. The warboss is much better off going with a regular unit of boyz in a vehicle (trukk or battlewagon), or with a unit of warbikers.
In either case, put a nob, powerklaw and bosspole in with the group, and give the warboss cybork, combi-skorcha, and a powerklaw, and you've got a very deadly unit. If he's going with regular boyz, then mega armor works nicely, as long as you give the boyz stikkbombs or a stikkbomb chukka on the vehicle (since the mega armored boss slows down the unit).
If you're going to run meganobz in an army that has a lot of vehicles, I prefer to attach a big mek with a kustom force field and bosspole to the meganobz, and again, run the warboss with a non-nob unit. If you definitely want the boss with a unit of nobz, then I'd put him with meganobz, since he gives the unit a model with an invulnerable save, and more importantly, a bosspole.
Ironically, I'm not sure what you mean either.
Warbosses need to either be on a biker or in a vehicle, regardless of anything else.
If the warboss has mega-armor, and he's attached to regular boyz, then you should probably give the boyz some stikkbombs, either directly, or by attaching a stikkbomb chukka to the vehicle they're all riding in, otherwise you'll have a lot of trouble against certain opponents (like other Orks, most notably).
I'm mostly asking the Stikk Bombs are imperative because of the Warbosses presence. He slows them down in the movement phase in Mega Armored and on foot. He only slows himself down in the assault phase. Stikk Bombs are good but why are they needed because of the Warboss? I feel like I'm missing some important rule......
The mega armor slows the warboss down, and the unit moves at the speed of its slowest member. As a result, the entire squad is slowed down, not just the warboss. Since they're moving as if they're going through difficult terrain, they need stikkbombs, or the whole unit of Orks is attacking at initiative 1.
It's not a big deal against things with initiative 4 or higher, but against large unit of guardsmen, and other Orks, it will mean the difference between victory and defeat.
I did not know that units moving as difficult terrain fought as such. Thanks Grax.
Okay then here's my plan:
1 Meganob Warboss in Battlewagon (Battlewagon with Deffrolla and Kannon) with bosspole, Cybork Implants, Combi-Scorcha and one of my favourite ork upgrades, the Attack Squig.
18 Boyz, Choppas and Sluggas in Battlewagon too.
This would come with a set of 10 Warbikers and (maybe) 10 Kammandos to tie up any Multi-Meltas, Tank Hunters and such. Plus the supporting fire of my lootas, the battlewagon should reach the front line just fine.
