Yes, he's awesome!
No, he stinks.
I'm scared of clowns, I don't add Harles...
I finally got my Harles up to full strength( 7 Harles, 1 TM, 1 SS, and 1 DJ), and was reading the codex before my last game. When I noticed that although the description of the Shrieker Cannon clearly states "virulent genetic toxins" the weapon is in fact NOT poisonous! Now feel really stupid for not paying closer attention, before I bought the figures.
My question is this: If the whole point of having Harles is to have a purely awesome melee unit, what is the use of including a single model in that unit, who gains no melee bonus of any kind, and only has a moderate at best 24" weapon?
P.S. Please excuse the typo in the poll, it should read: I'm scared of clowns, I don't add Harles...

i, ll willvote yes for the simple fact of the protection he can gain you from his pinning weapon, generally you will be going to a squad that you want to assault and normallly these will be closest to you and if you can pin them it really protects your numbers for the charge, so you might think youre losing an extra cc speicalist but for one hes not normally needed and two if he pins the team your gonna go in with more men then if they got shot at...i think he really adds to the compliment of the side really well
I didn't vote one way or the other on this one. I find him to be so so, I generally end up fleeting with my harlies making him useless. I have how ever used him to good success in a small squad with a shadowseer and Maugan Ra. The extra shots are nice making it a good addition for a gunline counter charge list.
nakaruru, I thought Maugan Ra had to stay with Dark Reapers, do you leave him behind and use for fire suppression?
Oh and thanks Mulelock. I had forgotten that his weapon pinned, I guess charging low leadership units units, with him in my group would a nasty dimension to our combat.
He can't join aspect warrior besides dark reapers. Harlies are not aspect warriors. Maybe I'm playing it wrong but that is how I've always played it. VoT keeps him safe from longer range the unit puts out a decent number of shots with the death jester and him and nobody wants to charge a guy with str 6 power weapon attacks. Even without Muagan Ra death jesters could find a place in counter charge harlie units because it gives them a way to join in the shooting while waiting to charge. Only problem with that is the fact that gunline counter charge isn't very good in 5th.
Javlin, I've since edited your poll to reflect the proper wording. If you like, I can reopen the poll. Send me a PM, and I'll be happy to do so
(and also, you should send me a dollar or a carrot )
Spambot kill tally. . .337
a fully decked out harlequin troupe gets about 38 attacks on the charge
without the DJ you get 39 attacks
it's worth it to shoot with an assault 3 pinning before the charge IMO
plus he looks cool and lets you shoot if you're out of charge range
Yeah, the DJ is one of those weird units that don't seem to fit, but you need to take depending on the situation. If I use my Harlies as a counter-assault unit on defense, I'll always take the Death Jester. His cannon IS really nice (Its a hand held shruiken cannon that pins....how awesome is that? I mean, REALLY awesome!) And if you need to pop a transport from behind, his gun will do it just fine (so you can then assault the tasty juicy sardines...I mean ultra marines inside it).
To be honest, like Kelter said, you lose ONE attack for a S6, AP5 pinning weapon, that, 90% of the time, the enemy won't even be able to shoot BACK at you. Fun!
granted you trade 5 S3 attacks with rending for 4 S3 attacks without rending but in either roll provided you hit ALL of them probability still says you'll get a 6 on less than 1
i really feel like the difference in negligable to be able to shoot with that his shrieker cannon
so now that the poll is open again, you know where my vote goes
Well seeing as I already have the mini, I guess I'll take him -_0 I just really wish his weapon was poisonous, that would totally make him in my mind. However, I do see the usefulness of a long rang shooting attack regardless. If I needed more convincing, there's always the poll.
