I just got the new space hulk game, and granted the game is awesome but the models for it are just too good to not play on the table top. I do have marines already so I don't have any problem with putting the terminators on the table.
But I just have the Broodlord to start off with as well as the two genestealer squads that can be filled out with the models in the box. I would like to know what the popular choice would be for tyranid players, and which methods/playing styles are viable in this new edition.
I am leaning toward hormagaunt spam as is, so please tell me what you guys, or ladies, think

Tyranids are rumored to have a new codex in Janurary or February. As of now, with what you have, running a lot of Genestealers with scuttlers (for outflanking) is a legitimate tactic.
Other than that, the most popular archetype is "Nidzilla" with tons of monstrous creatures and Genestealers are troops.
I'll recommend the same thing to all new players. "Buy the battle force box." You get 3 warriors, 8 Hormoguants, 6 genestealers, 8 regular guants and a carnifex. It is an amazing value and you get all models you'll use almost everygame. The point contex of the box is low so you can use all your new models for early low point games. With the Brood loard you already have and the 2o or so genestealers you got with space hulk you'll find that you have a decent army for casual play almost imediatly.
On the Hormoguats spam i recomend agenst it. I love hormoguats, don't get me wrong, but they are expensive and not a game wining unit. They very close support from harder hitting units to do there job. My tactic is to use them to catch units and then charge with another unit like warriors, genestealers or a Hive Tyrant. That is why i recoment buying the battleforce box. I usually use a unit of about 20 to 25 depending on the points of the game but only one unit.
Post if you have any more questions.
Army's used: Space Wolves, Tomb Kings, High Elves, Tyranids, Tau and Eldar.
Can't go wrong with the battleforce. I'm kinda building my units in a balanced fashion and trying to stay away from specific spam tactics for the moment.
Could say I'm in the 'wait and see what the new codex next year brings' mentality. I'm hoping, really hoping, that hormagaunt spam works with the new dex. I love the visual of tons of critters jumping over walls screeching. For now I kinda find them meh. Useful but I don't invest heavily into them with my lists, mostly due to their cost vs effectiveness.
Genestealers will always be one of our best assault choices so I think the space hulk box is a good value that army concept. (doubly so if you play a marine army.)
But I still recommend the battle box, also another box of gaunts never hurts. Can never have enough gaunts!

I agree with everyone else. The Battleforce is an amazing deal. Get it while you still can.
as some people have said hormaguants arnt really the best troop choice. they are cost quite a lot of point and i would rather spend them on genestealers. you could use the hormaguants as a shield for your other tyranids
