Welcome to Librarium Online!
Me and my mate are aiming to enter the doubles next year and we’ve decided to go with a Nob biker army each of us packing a Warboss and 8 well equipped Nob Bikers. It should be fun to play and much easier to transport that are current armies that require a case and a few boxes to transport.
Anyway the problem is deciding on an effective support unit for each of the Nob Biker units for 92pts, we going to make both are forces identical but with contrast paint schemes. Here are the choices what with come up with so far, remember they’ll be doubled.
20 Grots: Go to ground on objectives in our deployment zone while the nobs invade the other half.
10 Grots + 3 Kannons: Same as above but swapping out some grots for some much needed anti-tank to shoot down pesky skimmers.
Grots + Looted Wagon: This is a new addition as someone pointed out a massive flaw in our setup which if an objective is placed on a raised platform or floor were screwed. So I though about mounted grots in a small mobile bunker to protect them and get them to an objective the orks can’t reach.
So far that’s our options, but we want other people’s opinions on the matter?
I think that unit's overkill. I'd cut out one biker nob and not attach the warboss to them. They'll still be very powerful this way:
7 Nob bikers w/2-3 powerklaws, painboy, cybork, waaaaugh banner, 2-3 combi-skorchas (on nobz with powerklaws), and bosspole
This gives you 142 points, enough to field this unit, to attach the warboss to:
4 warbikers w/nob, powerklaw, and bosspole
This will give you two units of bikes instead of one, which will be far more effective.
If you really want the unit to be the way you've listed it, then the best support unit would probably be a unit of grots, to claim an objective or provide cover for something else in your army.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
My money's on the kannons. They're ridiculously cheap, and appear to be so much less of a threat than the nobz that they might even go the whole tournament unscathed. If there ends up being an objective that you can't grab (I doubt they'll really be using a lot of buildings in a tournament environment, and most buildings tend to just count as ruins so you should be fine), just use your dakkaguns to kill whatever's protecting it. Not a whole lot of troops out there can hold up to that much shooting.
