ok, so i was talking about fire prisms to my mates , and i was talking about how i would like three, i tell them about the shot combotnations possible, and then the GUARD player, tells me that theyre overpowered, when his army happens to be just tamks, with a few men who dont move.
he also wants to know what the catch with fire prisms is, theyre one bad thing,
Its good to see the guard player is supplying lots of whine with his Cheese
The catch, is that Fire Prisms are glorified big guns on basically a Hellhound chassis. We get better side armor and the ability to move flat out, but for all the perks it has, it's still an armor 12 vehicle that can be downed from the front just as easily as a Chimera. If your opponent is complaining about holo-fields, explain to them that if they even glance the thing, any result but an immobilized takes the tank out of the equation for a turn (or more, if it's not a 1 or 2.)
Edit: Woot 350th post!

2K Mech Eldar in 2010: 25Win/4Lose/8Draw
Don't see how an AV12 vehicle is OP, Valkyries included. Fire Prisms win games, if someone is stupid enough to not shake/stun it every turn. Eldar armies are so small I always have guns to spare, they only fire if my opponent gets turn 1.
Seer Councils are the closest thing Eldar has to an OP unit, maybe show your friend that. ;]

no catch, just if you shoot them, and penetrate (or glance) they cant do anything next turn!!!
When faced by an army of awesomness, RUN.
Adding Rep is always nice for everyone!
I can't imagine why every unit with a good ability needs some kind of 'catch', but if they must have one I'd say it's that you need multiple Fire Prisms to use their linking ability. That IS a weakness. It ties up multiple slot choices and costs a minimum of 230 points.
Coming off 12 years of playing Guard (hybrid lists most of the time) I can't see how the Fire Prism linking is overpowered. I honestly feel like I'm wrestling with myself right now deciding to take them: It's hard to convince my heavy weapon-related instincts that it's worth taking 2 tanks for a single shot when I'm used to being able to take a single Medusa (I love my Medusa), Basilisk or even the standard Leman Russ and reign death from an even better range and no LOS.
the melta counter is what pisses me off the most
av12 or not, no 2d6, nothing higher than s8..
even the wave serpent is a bitch to shoot at
People seem to be confused about something: ONLY Serpents have Energy Fields. So Wave Serpents are MUCH more durable than Fire Prisms.
That means you can Melta a Fire Prism to death.
Necron Army Building Maxima: Beware of Phase Out
He says Fire Prisms are cheese? I'd take a regular Leman Russ Battle Tank over a prism tank any day of the week. Prisms are nice, yeah, but Lemans are better main battle tanks.
You blow off a weapon on a Russ, who cares? I might still have a lascannon, two sponsons, a hunter killer, and a stubber or heavy bolter.
And being able to fire a S8, AP3 large blast template ORDINANCE weapon while moving? That's just pure awesome in every form. Even a naked Russ comes out to 165~ points, and drops marines like flies. We need two prisms to drop templates to do that.
Cheese? Nah. Balanced? Yup. I love my Prisms as much as I love running russes in my guard lists.
What are the rules for moving and shooting ordance (NON barrage)?
I cant find a text that says they cant move 6" and shoot it still.
