XV9 'Hazard' Close Support Armour
Question: Is using a Plasma rifle to kill a fly overkill?
Answer: Nevah, the fly was in the way when i was melting some Death Guard!
That is the first piece of FW I am actually tempted to buy.
At least, as soon as they allow twin-linked plasma, missile pods, and fusion on them. The existing FW rules for them explicitly say that more weapons options are forthcoming.
ninjabackhand: point and click, again, really? even after i give you an military term "shock tactic" you still call it point and click.

Oh man I have just seen the XV8's for my new Tau army. Luckily I did not buy any XV8's yet.
As an aside that is radically different to the existing XV suits, it looks like next generation. Makes me wonder if GW have something planned for Tau because Forge world usually create stuff that is on a par with the GW models and this suit is so far above the present XV kits it makes me think that GW may be undertaking a major redesign (new codex anyone).
Here are the rules: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/pdf/xv9.pdf
Weapons are not much cop for the points but other weapons choices are going to come in time. The thing that is most news worthy about this is two words 'FAST ATTACK' that is a potentially nine extra suits. Its only FW rules at the moment but who knows, I think we are seeing the future of Tau here.
Oh yeah and its toughness 5, which means instakill by STR10 only, keeewwwwwwllllll

Damn sexy is all I can say. Even if this isn't the new crisis suits for the Tau, I think they will be the new ones for my army.
Point cost is a bit high and unless they have different weapon choices don't see much use for the BS Filter. Also, a targeting array option for wargear would be nice. However, this suit does get 4 slots instead of 3 plus the vectored thrust. I still think drones should get it to especially since it costs 10 for the HW drone controller.
- Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.
I would buy that just to convrt the helmet to my Shas'el but yeah apart from the legs the model looks great i just cant help but wonder what two twin linked P/L's are going to cost it.
Oh my goodness.... that's most sexiest armor unit in 40k I ever seen...
Ultramarines and Tau player
Sweet, looks like we just got our own dakka tyrant. Plus this looks just so dang awesome! (sodawesome?)
A unit of three would be an expensive unit, but devastating against infantry.
Consider the options for these guys, with only 2 minutes thought I came up with:
3 x XV9 (195pts)
1 with DC and GD (25pts)
2 with TL (10pts)
That's 230pts, for a unit that can pump out 19 twin-linked str 5 shots at an operating range of 24", at up to three different units (the TL's are mainly taken to keep them cheap). If they get caught in CC they are a pretty tough to kill unit with multiple wounds and good toughness, that can sacrifice the one gun drone to instant leave combat and unload their guns again. As has already been pointed out, they are in the FA slot as well. So I can still take three more units of XV8's as Deathrains or fireknives or whatever I want with their missilepods.
Why would you ever take a Stealth unit ever again? These guys do the same job way better, for only 50 pts more (over a 6 man vanilla unit).
Plus.......they look absolutely incredible. The might be my favorite looking Tau unit and I have only been looking at them for five minutes.
Now if you will excuse me I need to wipe the saliva off my keyboard,
I don't care what you say. I found a lightsaber in my garage and that makes me a Jedi
I think the legs give it a more agile look, I can imagine the suit being used more on its legs (close fire support remember) and they look more capable of fast and agile movement than the present Tau XV legs. The toghness boost could come more from advanced materials design then bulky armour (XV
The designs also look very much like they were done or influenced by the designer Roberto Cirillo who was responsible for the design of the Stealths and Shadowsun.
