Yep, once again, me coming in with another little does of confusion.
This time my problem pertains to...which grenade is which? No where in the codex nor the instruction booklet is there a label of which is EMP or Photon. Also, those little canister looking things that attach to the back of the Fire Warriors? What kind of grenades are those?
Sorry for bothering you guys with this stuff so much, but thank you for your time.
EDIT: And what is that ground mounted thing that is often shown in pictures with the Stealth suit trio?

I don't we got different bits for them. the grenades in the FW kit are both kinds if you want them to. I wouldn't make much sense to make different type of grenades.
By the way, I'm a german player so I do not know if this are the right names for them, but Phtotongrenades are defensive grenades. And EMP Grenades work in a special way. Both are described in the codex.
But, to be honest. They are quite useless. I do not advise to play them.
If you got some spare points try to fill in a kroot hound or somerhing
the rulebook doesn't really explain any grenades very well
it's very frustrating for a new player
I think the photon grenades are supposed to be those small dual canisters. and there is an arm in the box holding out an emp grenade(the one that isn't the drone controller). But because there's only one of those emp grenades arms, i say if you like you can count the small dual canisters as either if you like.
However i don't use them - there are better ways for destroying tanks with the tau than a firewarrior team with emp grenades. And you only buy the photon grenades if you think you'll be getting assaulted, which of course goes without saying - don't put your firewarriors in that position. You've got a 24 foot square battlefield - don't let them be within 12" of any enemy unless in a devilfish, or if you're going to wipe that unit out in the shooting phase.
Although the tau grenades are theoreticly pretty good, (slightly less effective than a meltabomb), the probabilty agaist getting into position to use them agaist a tank is slim.
Being as this is nonstandard equipment they in the least shoud be modeled on your firewarriors. At the very least the two canisters, although the disk in one of the firewarriors I believe is the correct representation.
An opponent, if he had glanced at your list will see that and stay far enough away. As warrirs die rather easily across open ground it isnt exactly a viable tactic to go chasing down a tank.
And as its been stated, there are other ways of knocking out that land raider... mostly its called the railgun

Photon grenades are the dual canisters that hang off their hips. The EMP grenade is clutched by one of their hands (the one with the straight arm.)
The other hand-held object (with the spines) is a sensor and could probably be used as a drone controller.
There was an article in Tau online that explained this all. I think.
That is just an objective marker. I believe it was either mentioned in an online article or a White Dwarf, I can not remember which.
