Welcome to Librarium Online!
Ok guys i'm just getting back into elder and I have one big major question and that is what do you do about anti-tank? Every time I ask this question I have someone say to me “Nate”, “Eldar have str6 weapons”! “Anti-tank is NO problem”!
Ok obviously i'm missing something here I would think we would need lots of brightlances and EML’s to break down a lot of the tanks/landraiders we come up against but ill look at lists that others make with barley a BL or EML on it…
What do you guys do about anti-tank? What am I missing or not seeing? I played Daemons for a few years and had plenty of Anti-tank but with my elder i'm still scratching my head.
As a Iyanden player I relly upon the following for anti-tank
1. Troops: Wraithcannon are quite effective with successful hits penetrating 33% of the time.
2. I also have my Wraithlord who can effectively attack vehicles in close combat.
3. I tend to field a squd of walkers (2xEML) at the back with my doom-guide farseer HQ and their krack bombardment can be effective.
But thats me
If I were a less focussed craftworld player it would have to be 6 Firedragons incl a crack shot, tank hunting firepike armed exarch mounted in a Falcon with a brightlance option.
Alternatively shinning spears could be used
Kev of Iyanden
Avatar, Fire Dragons, Scropions, 2 Harlies with fusion guns and/or Shadowseer, Wraithguard, Singing Spear warlocks, Autuch, EML/BL armed weapons platform guardians, strom guardians with fusion guns, Swooping Hawks(AV 14 I don't care I still get a glance on 2+ and on a 6 thats a pen), Warp Spiders, jetbike Guardians with Shuriken Cannons, Vypers , Wave Serpents, Shining Spears, Wraithlords, Falcons, and Fire Prisms(even after listing every unit we got that has chacne to pen armor I still think am missing some).
Better question would be did you read the codex with your glasses on? Eldar have no problem taking out armor if you know how to use Eldar but then thats the whole point of Eldar
i think most eldar builds have fire prisms, fire dragons or are fitting EML and BL on their wave serpents
people are finding ways to have their units double for anti-tank (e.g. the transports) rather than having specific anti-armor builds
Fire Dragons are (to me) the last word in anti-tank. An entire unit armed with melta guns is something every other army would kill for (I know how much I wanted them in my Marines). Melta weapons glance an average armour of 11.5 up to 12 inches and 15 (!) within 6.
Bright Lances have a nasty reputation, but they're too expensive now. Besides, their special ability of reducing armour only applies to armour above 12, and still requires them to roll 4+ to glance and 5+ to penetrate. I would only field them if I knew for certain I was going up against several Land Raiders.
The Avatar and Wraithlord both smash them apart from range (assuming the Wraithlord is equipped for AT) and they'll both annihilate tanks in assault.
Fire Prisms are devastating, since even a single one has lascannon stats and even the humble Scorpion Exarch can be equipped for it. Warlocks are a fun way to do it, as are Swooping Hawks with their Haywire Grenades.
The list goes on and on. The only catch is that it's not quite as conventional as Imperial or Traitor armies. I don't use a single Bright Lance in my armies, but I do make use of Eldar Missile Launchers for their versatility.
I field some or most of the following, depending on list and mood :
-Harlies with Kisses and 2x Fusion Guns. (Shadowseer and Troupe Master)
-Striking Scorpions Exarch with Scorpion's Claw & Biting Blade (Seriously charge that into any AV10 vehicule and it will be wrecked or destroyed.)
-5x Fire Dragons (cheap and effective)
-Up to 2 Wraithsword & EML (Flamer/Cat) Wraithlords.
-Wave Serpents with EML.
-Pathfinder squad (5x, vs Transports hey will sometimes get it.)
-Shining Spears (Full Squad, Exarch with Starlance)
-Up to 2 squads Swooping Hawks (min size)
-Warp Spiders (With Attached Power Weapon/Fusion gun Autarch)
-One Fire Prism
The rest of my army is 1 farseer and up to 3 squads of Dire Avengers, i haven't ever had any problem with armor.
just a clarification question on my part:
because the harlequin fusion(melta) gun only has a 6" range do you need to be within 3" for full strength?
Aye, only 3" of melta range.
Fire Prisms are NOT reliable anti-tank. New scatter rules means they barely hit when firing by themselves, scattering an average of 3-4 inches, enough to miss anything. Twinlinking makes them a bit better.
