Welcome to Librarium Online!
Im looking to include Lelith Hesperax in my kabal as a small ally force of wyches to my main kabal for some fights, mainly so i can get a lot of small squads of wyches in (its been working wonders against my friends space marine combat squads lately!) but have a few questions.
She is stated as coming with a shadow field, and it is not mentioned that she has combat drugs. However, it then states her retinune can choose the effect of their drugs as they are an elite unit rather than rolling, so is she included in this? Seems weird the top "wych" wouldnt use drugs. Also, as she comes witha shadow field as standard, is this the only one in the army? As I tend to give my dracon a shadow field but if I have to give lelith it if I take her this will be a blow to my main HQ's survivability, so with her having to take it, is this an exemption to the rule and I can also give my dracon one?
And last question, as shes a wych, does she benefit from the invulnerable "dodge" save in close combat? (if her shadow field has failed of course on a previous wound)
Sorry if all this has been asked before, I couldnt find anything recent!
It's not really written in the dex, but yes she probably has combat drugs and dodge save, it's just weird she's an important wych lord and doesn't have what other wych lords have...
Regarding the Shadow Field, I would argue that it would indeed be the one allowed Shadow Field for the army. A Shadow Field is a Shadow Field, and the rule is quite clear that you can only have one per army.
If the FAQ doesn't cover any of these things, then you've gotta play with how it is written, not necessarily by how it's meant to be (or logically should be).
The issue of the combat drugs was clarified in the most recent FAQs, though it is important to notice that she does not have access to a Combat Drug Dispenser. So just the one drug effect for her and her retinue that they can choose.
(WH40K) Dark Eldar - (12,000pts) Sisters of Battle - (5000pts) Dark Angels -(3500pts) (WHFB) Dark Elves - (10,000pts) Beastmen - (5000pts) Empire - (3000pts) Wood Elves - (1500pts)
And if you take Lelith, you can't give another character a Shadow Field. One Shadow Field per army means one Shadow Field per army. I had a discussion with some friends on LO about this very thing two or so years ago.

Although Lelith is a bargain when your pinching your points she has quite a few flaws...
1. If you take her solo then she doesn't get any drug at all
2. She doesn't have plasma grenades so she will be initiative "1" when charging into cover.
3. She doesn't have dodge but she's going to use the shadowfield and when thats gone so is she.
4. She has an agoniser - I hate wounding everything on a 4+ so this is just a personal thang.
I always prefer an Archite over Lelith - the shear fact that an Archite doesn't have these problems is more than enough to warrant the higher cost.

Am I really going to be the first one to mention that Lelith Hesperax is the leader of the wych Cult of Strife, the Cult which DOES NOT use combat drugs? (According to the fluff in the codex, they don't use drugs because these would dull their senses and experience of the battles.)
Even GW contradicts their own fluff by saying that Lelith would get the bonus for the drugs when having a retinue, as she would be the only wych which who wouldn't (four w's in a row, lol) use drugs.
GW is weird.
Innovation suffuses this hobby like a tea bag in the boiling water of play.
But as they say, rules and fluff often don't mix. If her retinue get the 12" assault drug then it would cause gameplay problems for her. Not major ones but ittle annoyances.
