I did a search to look for previous posts and didn't find anything and since i was thinking about spending my hard earned cash on this model i figured i would get some advice. Here are my questions... Is the Red Terror worth the dough? Is it worth the points on the field? I guess i am just looking for some input on this model since it seems it is rarely mentioned.

actually. no. i don't think he's worth the points in battle. it's just one monstrous creature who can easily be shot down if you don't move him around properly.
but i suppose if you could get him unscathed into cc he might get his points back. but he's toasted if he's up against something that's good in cc. usually.

He's also one of the coolest models out there, so I'd consider using him just for that.

If he had higher initiative he may be worth it, but 3 is just horrible.

Now, if the rule for when it was deep striking was instead of dying when he appears on a model, he eats it instead!

the one thing for him that really makes me want to try is cause he can eat a model! that is sweet! now i don't know how often he lands enough hits to actually do it but it sounds neat! anyone actually use him in combat?

I field the RT for two reasons:

1. The model is cool.
2. The rules are fun.

Actual game-effectiveness is debatable, which is why it's not a staple in my army lists, but it is much fun to use to scare the enemy with! It's also rather nasty against vehicles of any sort...

As far as swallowing goes, that's pretty rare... Bear in mind that Str modifiers from weapons count, which means no eating models with PFists and the like! Thus it's usually much better to just deal the normal attacks, which are devastating enough.

I think for 104 points he is good against soft armies such as guard and eldar. I haven't had good luck with him against marines though. He always seems to get shot up! It's the T 5. He should be toughness 6 just like the other monstrous creatures.

He should always be allowed to deepstrike, though... whenever I play tau or guard, they refuse to allow me to deepstrike with it.

Well, at least I've moved into manhattan, now... so many clubs, so little time!

Personally I don't use the red terror. His swallow hole ability is helpful, but it doesn't happen too often. It is the weakest of all the TMC's, but the best looking TMC. Great to field alongside cc raveners. The red terror is hard to get all of his points back. <_<
