Yes: They're good for ranged support.
No: They're a waste of pts.
I'm curious because my army is completely mobile a few trukk boyz, battlewagon, buggies and nob bikers so I was thinking of taking some grots to hold objectives in my deployment zone while the rest of the army smacks the enemy senseless.
One thing I'm thinking of getting is Big Gunz but are they really effective, I mean you've got 6 grots and 1 runtherder surely they'll run or be easily shot up?
So Are Big Gunz Worth Taking?
yes they are good for foot slogging armys but for your army you should use boom guns and lootas
I'd suggest zzzap guns just for the relative cheapness of it and the damage that can be done if left unchecked, even though I've had no luck with them so far they don't seem that bad of an idea.
For their cost, they're amazingly cheap, and a great addition to any army. However, I feel they tend to work better in smaller armies rather than large ones (less than 1850 points). In large armies, you'll be spending the heavy slots on battlewagons and/or killa kans. Still, if you've got the spare 60 points and heavy slot, they're an amazing bargain.
"Any job worth doing, is worth doing with a powerklaw."
The only ones are partial to are Lobbas. Kannons get outclassed by Lootas and ZZap Guns are a little to risky for my personal taste.
If you have the spare slot, a Lobba battery isn't a bad buy. They can fire indirectly which is nice because you do not want those things being shot at, trust me.
I like Kannons, they can help out with high-armored vehicles and bust marines, frag up the weak hordesters, and have good range all for a low price.
Well, not much to add, since Grax and the others have already laid out the basics.
Only one extra boon regarding Lobbas: them not needing LOS also means that you can take potshots at stuff hiding completely out of your sights thus putting a bit more pressure on your opponent (not much, but still...)
And for Proiteus's questionWell, yes, they run easily (especially if you leave the slaver at home), but still they're rather cheap, depending on how you deck them out, and if your opponent actually attacks the Big Gunz he leaves other stuff alone.surely they'll run or be easily shot up?
And remember, 66% of shooting hits go on the Gunz (which can absorb a lot of small arms fire) and if he decides to blast them away with an Autocannon squad, let him do it.
It ain't easy bein' green... :-)
Yeah the only reason I don't favor Kannons and Zzaps is they have to hit and they can be seen. You often won't get enough out of them if you're relying on them for a job. Orks have more reliable anti-armor units and certainly better anti-horde, that's why I'm not a big fan.
Haha I like 'em. Make me want to build Zzap guns outta lightning-bolt shaped straws ^_^
