Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello people. My store just got their copy of the 4ed rule book! They actually let me read it (whitch is more then I can say about the real GW stores). whith the exeptation of one rule, all of them make necrons better. So here are some rules that will effect us the most.
All bikes get a 24" turbo move, cannot fire or assault, but their save becomes invulnerable for the next shooting phase!(For example, Destroyers that move over 18" get a 3+ invulnerable save) And jet bikes really can fly (example, you can stop above woods whithout being in them but every one on the board can see you). The moving 6" in the CC phase is only for eldar (I know it sucks)
The monolith's ORD fires like regular tanks now (example, when the lith moves it rolls 2D6 and the scatter dice and picks the highest.
Scarbes as they were befor (but every one here thought I was wrong) are swarms now (example, NO TROOP SCREENING WHITH THEM) enfact troop screening is gone, for good.
No more tank rushing (whitch you already knew). If the tank takes a P hit at all, all troops MUST disimbark the tank.
You can move and rapid fire, whitch you already knew.
If you wnat to shoot at a unit that is say 24" away from you, but there is a unit say one inch closer, you have to take a test to shoot at the 24" unit.
There are a lot of other rule that make crons better but I don't wan't to type any more.
the local GW here let me take a look through it. im liking what im seeing.
I think from the new rules scarab swarms are going to become everyones favourite fast unit choice.
I'd far rather take 2 units of 10 scarabs for 240 points now then 1 unit of destroyers for 250 points.
Turbo boost them 24" up both flanks, try and get in some sort of cover if possible but if you can't you'll still get your invulnerable save for the turbo boost.
Next turn you have an 18" move to get into assault and tie up your opponents units.
The best bit about this is that your opponent just won't be able to ignore them, because if he does he will get 2 of his units tied up. Scarabs aren't the best in CC but you do get a lot of attacks when you assault with a unit of 10 and you coud even find it possible to turn over the smaller 5 man space marine squads that a lot of people play with.
Of course because his attention will now be taken with the scarabs this will allow the rest of the force to close to gauss weapon range, relatively unmolested. Might actually be able to run a C'Tan up the table without it attracting all your opponents firepower with this strategy.
The only problem is, how do you buy scarab swarms on their own??!!
I now actually have the new rule book. That's right, the test is just a basic leadership test to see if you can shoot the unit behind. If you wnat to shoot at a unit that is say 24" away from you, but there is a unit say one inch closer, you have to take a test to shoot at the 24" unit.
That idea about the scarabs swarm is sick. Its bad enough with them moving 12" and assaulting, but going 24" and getting an invulnerable save. Would this rule also affect the tyranid ripper swarms?
Ripper swarms are classified as infantry so no they wouldn't be able to do it. P264 for all the unit types.Originally posted by m0z@Aug 30 2004, 030
Would this rule also affect the tyranid ripper swarms?
Currently thinking up ways i can get hold of another 15 scarab swarms without buying all the troops to go with it. At the moment i'm considering redoing the ones that i have to have just 3 on a base rather than 4!!
You could make that even more sick.... 2 squads of 10 scarabs each joined by a Destroyer lord with lightning field! Man that would be an invincible force!
Necron will stand for eternity.Their race has survived aeons by trading their very souls for metal bodies. Now, they will live on through eternity and will vanquish all life from our universe. For they are Necron. Flesh is weak. The machine will rise!
The lord can only join 1 of the groups unless the rules have changed more than I first thought.
And over there we have the labyrinth guards.
One always lies, one always tells the truth, and one stabs people who ask tricky questions.
cbrate, i think he means take 2 lords.
anyway, with the new rules we very well could start seeing a lot of armies using a scarab rush strategy. it would probably be quite effective, given how cheap scarabs are, and how fast they are.
if this is the case though, its going to be time to start making conversions, rather then spending the money to buy boxes upon boxes worth of troops. im thinking the best idea, would be to get bits from friends (heads, arms, whatever hasnt been used), and just stick 2 scarabs on each, with a pile of carcasses around to take up the extra space. if you did that, 3 boxes of troops turns into 18 scarab bases.
o the possibilities, all thanks to these wonderful 4th edition rules.
Yeah the new rule book is here.
Everyone go to the GW store and get a copy.
I like the new rules they will make the game alot better.

the scarab tactic will be cool.
i played my first game with the 4th edition rules today. i fielded my necron army against my friends eldar... and got totally ripped apart. he took out my immortals and destroyers with ease and he locked my scarabs in cc with a wraithlord. :/ i made some tactical errors but you always do some mistakes.
personally i don't like the 4th edition necrons. they're much to fragile against shooty armies like eldar or imperial guard, heck! even the space marines will take out the goodies in the necron army without much trouble.
i guess i'll be playing some more games with my tyranids for the next couple of weeks. perhaps i'll do a little better
