Welcome to Librarium Online!
Alot of army lists being commented on seem to always be getting comments about having a or two big meks, with of course, Kustom Force Fields. But I've been thinking that grots do the same job except maybe better.
Kustom Force Field: In Mekanised armies, this is a must have. A 4+ for all vehicles is something that can change a crushing defeat to a victorious win. This and the fact that the mek with the KFF is only 85 points makes this probably one of the most effective HQ choices (arguably).
Grots: In footslogging lists these are scoring cover. For only 40-120 points you can have a scoring, save giving, elite tying unit. The big dwonside to this unit is the fact that they tkae away one of your troops choices, which for us orks is a big downside.
The obvious differences is that grots give a 4+ and KFF gives a 5+. So what do you think?
Agreed, KFF is necessary for armor, but Grots are cheaper and better for footsloggers.

You've pretty much nailed it as far as the general consensus for Big Mek vs Grot screens are concerned. In general, Grots are better for Footsloggin' and KFF is awesome for vehicles.
However, it never hurts to have a Big Mek w/ KFF in a footsloggin' army as backup. But I'm tempted to start trying a Warphead. Maybe not as reliable, but seems like it could be a lot of fun.
What i'm confused about here is do the walkers get a 4+ cover save from the KFF or just a 5+ because if you get the 4+ i could see that as being a huge benefit over the grot cover save, making them only that much more helpful at screening for your army.
Then again if both only get a 5+ cover save as you two previously said the grots are a cheaper alternative.
