Ok im not a tyranid player but today played a few people using the new tyranids. So looking at this the carnfexes have been nerfed and also had thier price raised. So now i wonderwhether they are still any good for there points or whether the trygon has taken its play. one guy i played had two carnifexes in a units which deepstriked. I charged it with a unit of terms and slaughtered them in one round of combat obtaining one causulty. So is there no longer a place for carnifexes in the new codex?
Nothing more funny than 3 inquisitors with sanctify when facing deamons. They cant do anything while you stand in front of them having a tee break.
No, Carnifexes do NOT suck now in the new codex. I'm sure some people might think so, but to me, it's more like thye have become more tactical so to speak. I quite like the new fexs over the old ones. But that's just me lol.

Its doesn't suck, but other HS units are probably better to take
They certainly arnt as good as they were, simply for the higher cost. What you used to get at 160 points was a 5 wound 2+ save beast that was very good at its job, and resitsant to ap3 anti tank and small arms.
Now you get a 4 wound 3+ save beasty, that is obviously more susceptible to fire, but is a lot better at killing off tanks thanks to its re-rolls from the tallons.
Ultimatly i think it will still do a good job, but not footslogging. Most fexs will be podding in from now on, so they dont get hit as they try and get close.

Fexes are still viable. I still think the price hike was too high though. They kind of made up for that by decreasing some troop costs.
Put your fexs i drop pods and deploy them with your trygon. The fex is a higher base strenght and a much larger threat to tanks.
I think they are still worht it. especially because of the Old one Eye with his awesome special rules. Crushing claws have been nured to D3 attacks which kind of sucks. But dual scything talons now let your re roll to hit so its not as bad. A fex is still good at raping tanks with 9+2d6 Strength against vehicles. All in all I think they aren't quite as good but the spore pods, Old One Eye and new biomorphs make them pretty good but a little over priced. A normal fex (2x scything talons) with a pod is the same price as a Trygon.
Since it now says they have instinctive behaviour, does that mean the fearless rule no longer applies and thus they have to be in synapse range or feed? I liked how they didn't have to worry about synapse before.
Yes, Carnifexes are subject to IB now.

I am not overly concerned with their cost increase. All troop choices have gone down in price, and you still need them to win games. I've always run my lists with 4-5 troops choices and spent the extra points on T6 models. With all their upgrades that they pretty much come with, you are looking at a 50 point difference from the old book, but genestealers are way cheaper, and gaunts as well. Most people used dakka fexes, and now they are more pricey, but this time they get 12 shots as opposed to 8, not to mention the cool benefits that twin linked devourers give, and I am not afraid to charge my dakka fexes into combat as much with their 2 attacks, 4 attacks now at I3 will be very helpful.
I'm of the opinion that the fex has taking a hard nerf that it didn't deserve, the only good fex's of the previous edition were the sniperfex and the devilfex, to those whiners that complained they were undercosted well they could have been balanced by slightly increasing the cost of devourers and the other weapons.
The main problem comes with that even the cc fex, which is the most iconic fex, is even more useless than before, at 160 points I could have a solid cc beast, now I have something that needs babysitting and protection or it will be death by turn 2.
To those saying your not doing it right you need to saturate the enemy just flock off, you can't do that in any game less than 2000points because of the cost, it isn't possible to squeeze in 5 MC and over a 100 gaunts, sure gaunts have become cheaper ( and in many respects weaker ) but those poits will eaten up by the big nids.
What's even worse is that the fex is now compared to other similair MC the weakest of them all and many of it's upgrades are just awfull, crushing claws at arguably even worse than before as they still cost the same yet when you take them you lose 2 of the abilities the fex pays for, living battering ram and a 2nd pair of scything talons, another is toxin sacs which untill we reach 6th and get a rewriting will also decrease the fex's damage output.
Sure you can put the fex in a droppod but then it's the same price as a trygon which is far better to the fex in almost everyway.
