so my space marine friend caught word that nids suffer from instant death inside of synapse now. as a result hes fixing his list to include things that cause instant death... im worried about my 6w nids now, can he kill 250 pts with one attack? we fight on wednesday for the first time since the new codex, what should i do?
Well, your mcs should be safe from instant death caused by double strength weapons due to their high toughness. As for force weapons, keep in mind that many tyranids have the "shadow in the warp" special rule that forces enemy psykers within 12" to take their psychic test on 3d6. That should help.

yes they do.
As for Id, the main things to worry about are the warriors and other middle creatures, like zoanthropes and raveners. If you take them, try to keep away from any vindicator blasts, as they are the only things with the strenght and damage to start wiping out whole squads.
As for your MCs, as Slayer says they should be fine owing to toughness.

Remember that they do not need to take a psychic test to use...only IF they wound your MC (and make sure that the character wielding it is in base contact with your MC and not something else) then they might I D you.... but must take a psy test first...
so you might avoid taking a wound on your MC and so it would not be an issue...but if you do ask them/remind them to take their psychic test and then if they do kill your MC ...say well done sir and send something else to eat them
It's rarely a problem. The few units who can ID you unsually have low strength and few attacks, so they relaly have to get lucky. Add to that SitW and you'll probably eat them for breakfast.

Use all your tricks avaliable to you. The tyrant's psi ability to make a unit WS1/BS1 for a full turn really helps them miss. Shadows, death-leaper, etc... to effect their psi tests. Everything is fair game!
Only his commander units can instant kill your 6w models, so just kill them, not that hard to do with all the fun toys nids have.
I always felt like killing the command units cause they always wanted to play with my nids, my nids just play too ruff for them. The poor trygon was just so lonely and bored he didnt mean to eat the space marine captain
Anyways. I never relized that killing the command units protected my bugs so much. I just tried to take them out for general perpose. Its nice knowing there is a reason for it.
ty for all the tips. i think i knew what to do against him tomorrow. ill ask him who has force weapons in his army and target them. i am worried about my warriors now that you mention it, being multi wound with a lower toughness... it's scary.
