Welcome to Librarium Online!
SO i've been debating whether to go full Trygon, full Mawloc or mix it up. Which one do you think is worth it. I personally think Burrow is really good and the Large Blast S6 AP2 is pretty tempting. But the Trygon beats it in WS and has a similar move, Biolectric Lightining. And it gets the weird Subterrean assault (or whatever its called) move. They also have the option of Trygon primes. The Mawloc is less points. Which is all in all better in your opinion?
Some seem to forget the Trygon also has 3more attacks in close combat and two sets of scything talons (rerolling all misses). This is all a much bigger deal then the difference in weapon skill.
The strategies for the two units are completely different and so your play style will need to be considered when you pick. The Mawloc's "burrow/unburrow" strategy that has been discussed seems to be inefficient although i really want to play test it!
The Trygon will be much more stout in CC and if you want forward Synapse that units can follow behind in a tunnel... you can do that.
My feeling is the trygon is the better option, but both appear to be worth trying out to see which suits your style.
Though my answer sounds trite, its something I have thought about for a while now: take one of each. If they target the mawloc the trygon has fun - and hes better at it. If they target the trygon then the mawloc can say hello again latter and the mawloc has the utility of potentially killing and atleast tying up those annoying rear guard heavy shooters.
However, it is dependant on what you play. An army based on reserves and DS would find two trygons more useful then a mawloc as two exist holes is nice for redundency and options, where as a shooty list could most definately use a mawloc to push your opponant off their objectives in turn 6+.
As of Tyranid 5th Ed. codex I have the Gaunts I wanted. I did, however, loose the sniperfexs I relied upon and they were more important then the gaunts.
Trygon all the way. reroll to hit X attacks on the charge? thats a whole lot of dead anything. Plus carnifex broods can come out of its tunnel? forget about it. Mawloc is a SX APX template every 2 turns? and reserves cant come out of its tunnel? and half the attacks of trygon? no thank you sir. Tyrgon prime all the way.
I know not what weapons World War 3 will be fought with. All I know is that World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones.
Magicuser, thats a horribly risky plan, if the fexs show up before/ at the same trygon do, theyre forced to come on from the back of the board, witch unless they have HVC means theyre going to do nothing for the game. Also i think you may find that the tunnel only allows infantry through it, not MCs but i havnt got my book so cant check at the moment.
As for which one to take, ive gone for Zarathrusta's aproach, one of each means that the opponent has to split his fire between the 2, or if he focuses on the trygon, he then has a wack a mole mawloc to worry about, and if he shoots the mawloc, the trygon goes on a rampage. Win win situation.

Are you sure Carnifex broods can exit the hole? I thought it was just infantry units. And Trygon all the way, unless you have the points for a prime. Those things are just too sick!
If Google were a woman...I would so marry her.
Just infantry models without wings can exit from a Trygon's hole.
I prefer the Trygon to the Mawloc, but the Mawloc has a few things going for him. He's cheaper, he has greater mobility (he can, after all, cross any map in a single "turn"), appears on T2 reliably (that is, deploy him, and bury him on your forst turn), and has a greater effect the turn he appears.
As for the Trygon Prime, he's great, but not really something you MUST get. If you find you don't need the extra Synapse and Shadow, you can save those points for something else.
Necron Army Building Maxima: Beware of Phase Out
For me I think that a Trygon and Mawloc will both end up in my 1750 army. Reasons: Trygon probably won't be Deepstriking he has fleet he is fast he re-rolls all his misses and has a very nice stat line. Mawloc can't take out units that like to camp sure he could scatter and not blow up under them and that sucks when he does but he can hit and run and is nice for popping transports. He might need bailed out of some sticky CC but Nids are all about synergy now any way so talking about a unit by itself instead of the whole army is just to narrow of a scope. I came up with a 3 mawloc list probably will never run it but you need hormies and/or CC warriors and/or ravenors to go bail the mawlocs out b/c they will get stuck in CC and no they don't hold their own as well as the Trygon/Prime. The Trygon Prime is in my opinion the only way to make Ravenors worth taking. He can keep up with them and a snake army I thing would be the coolest thing ever.
First of all the Mawloc has Hit and Run, second why the hell those units? Any unit that's capable of holding it's own in cc will do... I'm sorry, but if I'd be supporting a Mawloc in cc I'd send in units that actually distrac the opponent from taking down the Mawloc and are a more sure bet then say hormies and raveners... I like raveners but to often will they come short on what's needed.
